What It's Like to Work at Block
Block Employee Perspectives
Block’s open-source initiative aims to remove barriers to technology and promoting economic opportunities for all. The initiative emphasizes transparency, collaboration and shared progress, with the goal of empowering both customers and the broader developer community.

It’s very rare to work in a global, publicly-traded company that wants to invest in long-term big bets in a meaningful way.

I’ve always believed that economic empowerment is about leveling the playing field, providing tools to individuals and businesses to help them compete with people that are wealthier or people that have more resources than them.

We develop products in the open, inviting scrutiny early and often and welcoming input from external communities and within Block. This approach will help us build both better products and trust.

Square was built to give businesses more time, more power, and more possibility. That mission hasn’t changed, but the tools have. The future of commerce will be built by people who understand both AI and the humans it serves.

Here at Block, design is a little different than at many other companies in that we’re all builders. It’s a builder mentality. We kind of say its button to billboard because design is responsible for crafting the journey customers have with our brand and company and we want that journey to be a coherent arc.

We're building models that see how people actually earn, spend, save, and repay. We're proving that inclusive lending and responsible risk management go hand in hand.

People need to make decisions for themselves. I want to build the technology so that people can make those decisions and they don’t have gatekeepers that are making decisions for them.

Creating the opportunity for everyone to participate in the economy is just core to who we are [here at Block].
