About the Role

Hastings Deering is seeking an experienced Technical Communicator to join our team, with the flexibility to be based at any of our major branches across Queensland.

This role is responsible for providing advanced technical support to dealer personnel and act as the primary point of contact with Caterpillar for equipment technical support reporting and resolution. You will assist in resolving adhoc and ongoing technical and product issues by delivering timely, accurate advice and ensuring issues are correctly identified, investigated, reported, and resolved in line with Dealer and Caterpillar processes.

As the subject matter expert for an allocated product range, you will be a trusted technical advisor to internal Hastings Deering teams. You will apply your product knowledge and expertise across Dealer and Caterpillar systems, tooling, literature, and SOS data interpretation, while managing product problem reporting, machine incidents, and service communications to support improved machine reliability and business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical support to internal teams to diagnose and resolve complex product and technical issues
  • Act as the subject matter expert for allocated products, applying specialist knowledge and practical experience
  • Utilise Dealer and Caterpillar systems and tools including SIS, technical literature, tooling, and SOS data interpretation
  • Manage and report product problems and machine incidents through the correct Dealer and Caterpillar reporting channels
  • Review service letters and technical communications, providing clear advice and recommendations to stakeholders
  • Support basic warranty and goodwill processes in line with Caterpillar guidelines
  • Effectively prioritise and manage multiple technical cases to meet deadlines and business expectations

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong technical foundation, a methodical approach to problem‑solving, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and confidently.

  • Electrical or mechanical trade qualification
  • Strong equipment and product knowledge within a technical service environment
  • High attention to detail with disciplined documentation and reporting practices
  • Excellent time management and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Sound systems knowledge and confidence working with technical platforms
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate across all levels and influence key internal and external stakeholders
