The Account Technology Strategist (ATS) serves as a trusted technology advisor to the Australian Department of Defence, helping Defence leaders accelerate mission outcomes through cloud, AI, data, security and digital transformation.
Acting as a trusted advisor and virtual CTO, the ATS shapes technology strategy, influences enterprise architecture decisions and aligns Microsoft capabilities to Defence priorities. This role is responsible for driving secure cloud adoption, AI transformation and technology modernization across one of Microsoft's most strategic Defence accounts.
Working closely with Defence executives, Defence industry primes, systems integrators and sovereign technology partners, the ATS helps customers realize measurable mission and business value through technology innovation and transformation.
This role sits within Microsoft's ANZ Public Sector Team in the Strategic Defence & Intelligence Area Team Unit (ATU). Reporting to the Defence & Intelligence ATU Lead, the ATS is responsible for executive engagement, technology strategy and transformation across Microsoft's strategic Defence account.
Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Customer Engagement
- Build trusted relationships with Defence executives, technology leaders, industry partners and systems integrators.
- Lead strategic conversations on cloud, AI, cyber security and digital transformation.
- Influence long-term technology investment, architecture and innovation priorities.
- Serve as a trusted technology advisor across the Defence ecosystem.
Technology Strategy & Architecture
- Develop technology roadmaps aligned to Defence mission requirements and strategic objectives.
- Shape enterprise architecture strategies, reference architectures and future-state technology direction.
- Guide adoption of Azure, Data & AI, Security and Modern Work solutions.
- Align technology investments to mission outcomes, operational effectiveness and business value.
Opportunity Development & Strategic Pursuits
- Drive technical qualification and opportunity strategy for priority initiatives.
- Lead technology vision and solution strategy for major pursuits and complex opportunities.
- Partner with sales, specialist and industry teams to accelerate customer transformation.
- Support strategic deals through executive engagement and technical leadership.
Cross-Microsoft Leadership & Innovation
- Orchestrate Microsoft engineering, specialist, partner and delivery teams to support Defence priorities.
- Bring global engineering insights, best practices and emerging technologies into customer engagements.
- Mobilize resources to solve complex customer challenges and accelerate transformation outcomes.
- Support the development of sovereign and mission-focused technology capabilities across the Defence business.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience
- Experience in enterprise technology, including cloud, AI, security, software engineering, enterprise architecture or technology strategy.
- Experience engaging senior executives and translate complex technology into strategic business outcomes.
- Experience leading enterprise-scale technology transformation and modernization initiatives.
- Experience developing technology strategies, roadmaps and enterprise architectures aligned to organizational priorities.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with large government, Defence, national security or highly regulated organizations.
- Experience in customer-facing strategic technology roles such as Account Technology Strategist, Cloud Solution Architect, Enterprise Architect, Industry Advisor or Customer Success Account Manager.
- Experience shaping large-scale cloud migration, data, AI or cyber security programs.
- Knowledge of sovereign cloud, classified environments, defence technology ecosystems and mission-critical systems.
