At Magic Eden, we’re building the future of crypto entertainment. We began our Web3 journey as the NFT marketplace - but that was only the start. Today, we create immersive, social, onchain experiences that bring together culture, trading, gaming, and entertainment. Our goal is bold and simple: make crypto accessible, exciting, and unforgettable for the next generation of users. Backed by top-tier investors including Electric Capital, Lightspeed Ventures and Paradigm, we’re a global team of passionate, scrappy, and wildly talented people who don’t believe in limits. If you’re ready to take on big challenges, own your impact, and help shape the next era of Web3, you’re in the right place.

This new platform will sit at the intersection of sports, trading, and Web3. That means high-volume data streams, real-time odds, market-making mechanics, and financial-grade reliability, all built from scratch. We’re still small, moving fast, and setting the technical foundations for scale. The work is complex, high-impact, and very visible.

About the Role

We are seeking a Sports Risk Manager to join our brand-new sports betting product, reporting directly to one of our Co-Founders. This is a critical, foundational role responsible for establishing our risk framework from the ground up. You will apply deep sports market and analytical knowledge to directly safeguard our profitability, manage book integrity, and help shape our competitive positioning within the sports betting market. We are looking for a highly motivated leader to manage our book exposure and champion defence against market abuse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and Enforce Risk Limits: Define and enforce comprehensive risk limits across all sports (Soccer, Basketball, Tennis, Baseball, Cricket, etc.) to optimise profitability and maintain a safe exposure profile.

  • Proactive Player Analysis: Monitor and analyse player betting behaviour to identify and profile advantage players, sharps, fraud, or collusion.

  • Dynamic Mitigation: Implement and refine risk mitigation strategies, including dynamically adjusting customer limits and payout caps for high-volume events.

  • Audit and Validation: Audit proprietary trading systems (MTS) and 3rd party odds feeds to ensure accuracy, prevent arbitrage, and maintain book integrity.

  • Tech Collaboration: Define requirements and collaborate with Product and Data teams to build and improve proprietary risk analysis and automation tools.

  • Platform Integration: Optimise the integration and extensive use of industry vendor platforms for live odds, market data, and risk management.

  • Strategic Analysis: Conduct post-event and customer profitability analysis to evaluate risk exposure and inform long-term strategy and limit policies.

  • Lead Subject Matter Expert: Serve as the lead expert on market abuse and risk integrity, providing education to internal teams on best practices and emerging threats.

  • Drive Growth: Develop new solutions and processes necessary to effectively scale the risk function as the business expands.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience: 6+ years of experience in a dedicated Risk Management or high-level Risk Analyst role within iGaming or sports betting.

  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in managing risk associated with 3rd party odds feeds and automated trading systems.

  • Broad Knowledge: Broad knowledge of core betting mechanics (spreads, moneylines, totals, parlays, props, teasers, and futures) and how they impact book liability.

  • Fraud Defence: Proven ability to identify, investigate, and implement countermeasures against sharp bettors and irregular betting patterns.

  • Analytical Skill: Exceptional analytical and numerical skills with the ability to translate data patterns into executable risk policies quickly.

Professional Skills:

  • Highly motivated self-starter and aspiring leader with a proactive approach to solving complex, zero-to-one problems.

  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities under pressure, with an excellent attention to detail and risk management mindset.

  • Availability: Flexibility and willingness to work shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays aligned with live event coverage.

  • Industry Focus: Passion for staying current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
