About Karbon

Karbon is the global leader in AI-powered practice management software for accounting firms. We provide an award-winning cloud platform that helps tens of thousands of accounting professionals work more efficiently and collaboratively every day. With customers in 40 countries, we have grown into a globally distributed team across the US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines. We are well-funded, ranked #1 on G2, growing rapidly, and have a people-first culture that is recognized with Great Place To Work® certification and on Fortune magazine's Best Small Workplaces™ List.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to lead complex design initiatives and play a critical role in shaping high-quality, customer-centered experiences across Karbon’s product.

As a senior individual contributor, you’ll operate with a high degree of autonomy—defining problems, exploring solutions, and delivering well-crafted designs end-to-end. You’ll partner deeply with Product and Engineering, influence standards and quality beyond your own work, and help elevate the overall design practice through mentorship and example.

Key responsibilities
  • Own and drive complex product design work: Lead design for medium-to-large initiatives from discovery through delivery, translating ambiguous problem spaces into clear, effective solutions that balance customer needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
  • Create AI-enabled experiences: Contribute to the design of AI-powered features that build trust, user confidence, and long-term value for customers.
  • Partner deeply with Product and Engineering: Work closely with Product Managers and Tech Leads as a core triad partner—shaping problem definitions, exploring solution options, and making informed trade-offs throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Deliver high-quality, scalable design solutions: Produce concepts, flows, prototypes, and detailed designs that demonstrate strong interaction design, visual polish, and systems thinking—ensuring consistency and quality across the product experience.
  • Advocate for the customer experience: Ground your work in a strong understanding of accounting firms by incorporating research, insights, support data, and customer feedback to ensure we’re solving the right problems in the right way.
  • Contribute to design systems and standards: Apply and evolve Karbon’s design principles and systems, identifying opportunities to improve consistency, efficiency, and scalability without compromising quality.
  • Model strong design craft and critique: Participate actively in design reviews—both giving and receiving thoughtful, constructive feedback—and help foster a culture of high standards, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
  • Apply AI to improve design efficiency: Think AI-first, embracing AI tooling, prototyping and experimentation to increase design efficiency and innovation.
  • Mentor and support other designers: Provide guidance and informal mentorship to less experienced designers, helping them grow their skills, confidence, and impact through feedback, collaboration, and example.
What we’re looking for
  • 6–8+ years of experience in product design, ideally within B2B SaaS or complex product environments
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design thinking, interaction design, visual craft, and problem-solving across complex systems
  • Proven ability to work autonomously on ambiguous problems and drive work forward with clarity and ownership
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with experience partnering closely with Product and Engineering
  • Comfort balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution
  • Experience contributing to or working within established design systems
  • Passion for high-quality, customer-centered design and continuous improvement

Bonus:

  • Experience designing for vertical SaaS, professional services, or accounting-adjacent products
  • Exposure to designing AI-enabled product experiences
Why Work at Karbon?
  • Gain global experience across USA, New Zealand, UK, and Canada
  • 4 weeks annual leave plus 5 extra "Karbon Days" off a year
  • Flexible working environment
  • Work with (and learn from) an experienced, high-performing team
  • Be part of a fast-growing company that firmly believes in promoting high performers from within
  • A collaborative, team-oriented culture that embraces diversity, invests in development, and provides consistent feedback
  • Generous parental leave

Karbon embraces diversity and inclusion, aligning with our values as a business. Research has shown that women and underrepresented groups are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single criteria. If you've made it this far in the job description but your past experience doesn't perfectly align, we do encourage you to still apply. You could still be the right person for the role!

We recruit and reward people based on capability and performance. We don’t discriminate based on race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, lifestyle, age, educational background, national origin, religion, physical or cognitive ability, and other diversity dimensions that may hinder inclusion in the organization.

Generally, if you are a good person, we want to talk to you. 😛

If there are any adjustments or accommodations that we can make to assist you during the recruitment process, and your journey at Karbon, contact us at [email protected] for a confidential discussion.

At this time, we request that agency referrals are not submitted for this position. We appreciate your understanding and encourage direct applications from interested candidates. Thank you!

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
