About this role

Grant Thornton Australia is looking for a Senior Associate, Data Analytics to join our Financial Advisory team in Melbourne or Sydney.

As part of our Financial Advisory practice, you will collaborate with other areas of the business, gather, extract and analyse data to help provide meaningful and actionable insights and recommendations for the firm’s clients, providing solutions to complex financial and business problems.

This role offers a compelling opportunity for a data-driven professional with 3/4 years experience to deepen their expertise in analytics, and would be ideal for someone who’s already worked with data in a commercial setting and is looking to expand their impact through more complex problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and scalable delivery. You will have direct interaction with senior leaders and other key stakeholders, enjoying a diverse workload and being involved in the ongoing strategy and development of this growing team.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into data analysis tasks, specifying the data to be collected and methodologies and tools used

  • Work closely with stakeholders to identify data sources, gather relevant information, and perform ETL processes (extraction, cleaning, transformation and loading)

  • Build and maintain data models, dashboards, and reports using tools such as Power Query, Power BI, Alteryx, SQL, or Python to automate and simulate processes, adjusting and recasting models as required

  • Learn how to identify trends and patterns, and provide actionable insights and recommendations based on data findings

Skills and experience

  • University degree in a relevant discipline

  • At least 3 year’s experience in a similar role

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Adaptable and dynamic approach to work, with ability to pivot between different projects and teams as needed

  • Excellent communication skills, including interpreting requirements of diverse teams and adapting interpersonal style to different audiences

If you’re interested in this role but don’t feel that you match every single one of our requirements, we would still love to hear from you and explore the unique skillset and attributes that you can bring to the team.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
