Our Why

Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people's lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow.

About the Role (your why)

As a senior leader within Datacom's delivery leadership team, the Programme Director is the sole accountable leader for one of our most complex, high-value enterprise programmes. You will own the programme end-to-end, setting the vision, driving delivery, and ensuring outcomes are realised at scale. This is not a shared leadership model; you are the single point of strategic, commercial, and delivery accountability.

You'll bring together strategic clarity, technology leadership, commercial discipline, and operational excellence to create coherence across multiple workstreams. Critically, you will operate confidently at the executive level, reporting directly to senior leaders, shaping decision-making, and providing clear, insight-driven guidance that keeps the programme aligned to organisational priorities.

Your leadership sets the tone, direction, and delivery rhythm, turning ambition into execution, complexity into clarity, and delivery into sustained value.

What you'll do

At the moment, as Programme Director you will be focused on:

  • Setting goals for programmes aligned to organisational objectives and creating programme roadmaps.
  • Leading programme planning, structuring, and delivery governance to ensure quality outcomes.
  • Managing complex multi-platform technical delivery environments, including project teams and senior stakeholder engagement.
  • Overseeing programme schedules, budgets, risks, and resources to align with contractual and commercial agreements.
  • Facilitating organisational change management to achieve expected business benefits.
  • Guiding and mentoring Programme Managers to deliver success across multiple workstreams.
  • Driving stakeholder communications, reporting, and decision-making through clear metrics and delivery documentation.
  • Supporting pre-sales activities, bid development, and future programme strategy improvements.
  • Ensuring programmes remain aligned with Datacom's strategic priorities, risk frameworks, and delivery standards.

We are an agile company and are keen to respond to customer, technology, and internal stakeholders' changing requirements. This means our roles often evolve to meet those needs.

What you'll bring

  • 15+ years' experience in Programme Management within diverse, dynamic IT service environments.
  • 10+ years managing complex programmes using both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Demonstrable experience successfully leading and delivering large-scale programmes within complex multi-vendor environments, including managing delivery dependencies, commercial relationships, governance, and outcomes across multiple delivery partners.
  • Strong commercial, financial, and contractual delivery governance skills.
  • Proven experience in risk management, senior stakeholder engagement, and team leadership.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence at Executive and C-suite level.
  • High competency with project and programme management tools.
  • Programme management qualifications such as PRINCE2, PMI, MSP, PgMP, PMP or equivalent.
  • Agile principles certification such as PSM1, CSM, SAFe or equivalent.

Nice to have
  • Certified Project Director (CPD) or related qualification.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, IT, or a related discipline.
  • Scaled Agile (SAFe) certification, Lean and Facilitation qualifications.
  • Experience applying Datacom's core values to foster growth and success.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
