- Drive the design and build of a next-generation personalisation engine powering millions of customer interactions
- Lead architecture across backend systems, intelligent signals and customer experience platforms
- Partner with senior engineering and product leaders to shape the future of hyper-personalised banking
We’re transforming the digital banking experience for millions of Australians.
The Getting Connected value stream sits at the heart of our digital group, responsible for onboarding customers, helping them navigate the digital ecosystem, and delivering personalised, relevant experiences from the moment they arrive on the home screen.
We are evolving from cohort-based personalisation to true user-level hyper‑personalisation, powered by intelligent signals and a modern technology stack. This includes building a new personalisation engine that can surface timely, contextual prompts — like bill reminders and tailored insights — to help customers make better financial decisions.
As a Principal Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in shaping this transformation, delivering innovative, scalable platforms that define how customers experience our digital channels such as the CommBank App and Netbank.
See yourself in our teamYou’ll be part of the Getting Connected value stream within our retail digital group — a large, high-impact ecosystem made up of multiple squads focused on delivering seamless, personalised customer experiences.
Working primarily within the Home Screen squad, you’ll lead engineering across key personalisation capabilities, supporting two squads directly while collaborating with others across the value stream.
This team is focused on:
- Onboarding customers into the digital environment
- Curating personalised customer journeys and dashboards
- Building intelligent signals that proactively engage customers
- Enabling real-time, data-driven personalisation at scale
You’ll collaborate with engineers, product owners, and senior technology leaders to design and deliver the systems that power one of the most visible and critical parts of our digital experience.

- Influence and uplift engineering standards, including testing, observability, and deployment practices
- Drive innovation by exploring new technologies and approaches beyond the current ecosystem
- Mentor engineers and elevate technical capability across the team
We’re interested in hearing from people who:
- Bring deep backend engineering expertise with strong architectural experience
- Have delivered large-scale, customer-facing platforms in complex environments
- Are experienced in distributed systems, APIs, and event-driven architecture
- Can navigate ambiguity and drive solutions in greenfield or evolving environments
- Demonstrate strong learning agility, curiosity, and innovation mindset
- Have the confidence to challenge thinking and influence senior stakeholders
