Turn people data into insights that drive better decisions

Australian Venue Co. is looking for a People Data & Insights Analyst to help build the next generation of workforce analytics across our business.

With a diverse portfolio of pubs, bars and event spaces across metropolitan, suburban and regional Australia, our workforce is large, varied and fast-moving. This role will help us better understand that workforce — turning complex people data into clear, trusted insights that enable our People & Culture leaders to anticipate workforce needs, identify emerging risks and take targeted action.

Reporting directly to the Chief People Officer, you’ll work across People & Culture, Payroll, Data Services and our key workforce systems to develop meaningful reporting, analytics and decision-support products.

Key responsibilities

You’ll take ownership of workforce analytics across areas including workforce planning, payroll compliance, employee sentiment, retention and people risk.

Your work will include:

  • Translating business and P&C questions into meaningful workforce metrics, lead indicators and reporting.
  • Developing and maintaining Power BI dashboards, semantic models and analytical products.
  • Using SQL to analyse, validate and reconcile workforce data.
  • Providing insights into workforce demand, vacancies, recruitment pipelines, critical roles and internal mobility.
  • Developing controlled indicators that help identify potential payroll-compliance risks and exceptions.
  • Analysing employee survey results, engagement, turnover, retention and employee lifecycle trends.
  • Identifying emerging workforce risks and opportunities and translating them into practical recommendations.
  • Partnering with Data Services to improve data quality, governance, metric definitions and source-to-report reconciliation.
  • Managing a prioritised workforce analytics backlog and improving reporting automation and data literacy across P&C.

You’ll work with data from platforms including Workday, Human Force, Operandio and AVC Prime, our governed enterprise data platform.

What makes you the right fit for this role

You could currently be working in People Analytics, Workforce Analytics, HR Reporting, Payroll Analytics, Business Intelligence or a broader Data Analyst role and be looking to specialise further in workforce insights.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Strong SQL, Power BI and Excel capability.
  • Experience building dashboards, data models and clear, decision-ready reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to validate and reconcile data from multiple sources.
  • Experience working with workforce, HR, payroll, recruitment or employee survey datasets.
  • An ability to translate complex data into insights that senior stakeholders can understand and act on.
  • Strong attention to detail and an understanding of data quality, privacy, security and governance.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure data platforms, data lakes or semantic modelling will be highly regarded, as will experience with Workday or other workforce-management platforms. Python capability is advantageous but not essential.

Why join Australian Venue Co.?

This is an opportunity to join AVC at an important stage in the development of our workforce analytics capability.

Rather than simply producing reports, you'll help establish the metrics, data products and insights that shape how our People & Culture leaders make decisions.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Work directly with the Chief People Officer and senior P&C stakeholders.
  • Build analytics products that are used to make real workforce decisions.
  • Work across a broad and complex multi-site workforce.
  • Help shape how AVC uses its enterprise data capability for People Analytics.
  • Develop your career towards Senior People Insights, People Analytics/Data Product or Workforce Analytics leadership roles.

If you enjoy finding the story in complex data and want your analysis to influence real business and people decisions, we'd like to hear from you.

Salary: $90,000 + superannuation

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
