Start your litigation career at G+T
If you have recently completed your Practical Legal Training and have been admitted to practise, or are in the early stages of your legal career, this is an opportunity to build your experience working on some of the most complex and high profile disputes in the market.
You will join Gilbert + Tobin’s Melbourne Disputes and Investigations team and have the opportunity to learn directly from Janet Whiting, Christiana McCudden and Dan Moloney, alongside an outstanding team of disputes lawyers.
From the outset, you will be part of the team working on significant commercial disputes, class actions and regulatory matters. You will see first hand how experienced litigators analyse complex problems, develop case strategy, work with clients and counsel and prepare major matters for court.
This opportunity may suit someone looking for a defined period of exceptional litigation experience early in their career, or someone looking to begin and build a longer term career in commercial litigation at G+T. We are open to considering both fixed term and permanent arrangements depending on the candidate and the needs of the team.
You will also have the opportunity to work on and assist with the recently announced Royal Commission, with G+T appointed to represent the Victorian State Government.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to establish strong foundations as a litigator and build your experience within a leading disputes practice.
About you
You are an admitted lawyer at the beginning of your legal career with a genuine interest in litigation and an ambition to develop into an excellent commercial litigator.
You may have recently completed PLT and been admitted, or already have some early career legal experience. We are less concerned with the number of months or years on your CV than we are with your potential, capability and appetite to learn.
You will bring:
- admission to practise in Victoria
- a strong academic foundation and excellent analytical ability
- a genuine interest in litigation, advocacy and solving complex problems
- strong legal research and written communication skills
- intellectual curiosity and an appetite to understand difficult legal and factual issues
- excellent attention to detail
- initiative, resilience and a willingness to learn
- a collaborative approach and enthusiasm for contributing to a high performing team
Previous litigation experience is welcome, but it is not essential. What matters is that you have the aptitude, curiosity and ambition to become an excellent litigator.
