LGT Wealth Management was formed around a clear and uncompromising vision – to bring global best practice in building institutional quality investment portfolios to Australian clients.

With a shared passion for building an uncompromised business – we created something new from the ground up. A chance to leave behind the things that weren’t working, while enhancing the things that were. Our authentic and personalised client-first commitment. Our entrepreneurial spirit. Our focus in best-in-class advice. And our intimate understanding of the Australian private wealth landscape.

In 2022 we became a part of the LGT Group, who shared our entrepreneurial spirit, long-term approach and private-ownership model. Today, with the global expertise, stability, and capability of LGT behind us, we can work without being reliant on markets or margins, with a singular focus on giving our clients the advice and deep expertise they need for generations to come.

About the Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape the Risk & Compliance function at a pivotal time for the organisation.

Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, the Head of Risk & Compliance operates very much as a hands‑on, business‑aligned Line 2 risk leader — partnering closely with senior stakeholders to uplift risk capability, strengthen controls, and embed better practice risk frameworks across the organisation.

You’ll join during a period of change, with the opportunity to help define what good looks like and bring the business on the journey. You will elevate capability, refocus priorities, and move the function toward deeper, more impactful risk management.

Your Responsibilities

As Head of Risk & Compliance, you will:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the business, partnering with leaders to develop and oversee divisional risk profiles and support informed, balanced decision‑making

  • Drive the uplift of core risk management foundations, including risk registers, control descriptions, policies and the overall control environment

  • Ensure risk documentation is clear, accurate, practical and fit‑for‑purpose, aligned to regulatory expectations without being overly prescriptive

  • Lead risk considerations for new strategic initiatives and business changes, ensuring risks are identified, assessed and managed proactively

  • Champion a culture of constructive challenge, encouraging open dialogue, sound judgement and strong first‑line ownership of risk

  • Contribute to the evolution of risk tools and ways of working, transitioning from manual processes toward more effective digital solutions over time

  • Lead and develop a team of risk and compliance professionals, uplifting capability, confidence and impact

About You

You’re a seasoned risk professional who combines strong technical judgement with a highly pragmatic, commercial mindset.

You’ll bring:

  • Significant experience in risk, compliance or assurance within an Australian financial services licensee.  Experience in an APRA‑regulated environment will be well regarded.

  • A strong understanding of operational risk and compliance frameworks, including controls, assurance and governance

  • The confidence to operate effectively in ambiguous, evolving environments and the flexibility adapt to changing business priorities and requirements.

  • An ability to think beyond rigid structures and processes, while still maintaining discipline and accountability

  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to bring the business along the risk maturity journey

  • A naturally coaching leadership style, with a genuine interest in uplifting capability and developing people

Why You’ll Love This Role

  • Genuine influence – shape the risk function and how it supports the business

  • Balance of strategy and depth – guide the team on hands‑on, foundational risk work while also working with senior leaders to pursue organisational objectives

  • People leadership – build, develop and empower a high performing, engaged team

LGT Wealth Management is committed to the ongoing development of their employees. Your development will be managed and tailored to your role and future career path.

LGT Wealth Management is an equal opportunity employer committed to embracing a diverse and inclusive work environment. We aim to attract and retain the best people regardless of their gender, marital/parental status, ethnic origin, nationality, age, background, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
