Reporting to the VTS Operations Director, you will lead Project Management Office (PMO) operations across our Land and Munitions domains, owning the capability, standards, and overall performance of project management across both areas.
In this critical role, you will strengthen governance, transparency, and delivery performance across the domains by leading risk reviews across complex bids and projects, driving operational reporting and workload planning, and supporting the upcoming ERP transition.
Based at the World Trade Centre, Melbourne on Wurundjeri land, you will take a hands-on approach to overseeing all PMO activities across the portfolio of bids and projects. You will ensure a robust planning and reporting cycle is in place, proactively identify and flag cost and schedule variances, and work closely with the business leadership team and bid/project managers to drive timely corrective action.
Your Role
Lead, nurture, mentor, and coach the PMO team
Conduct a structured gap analysis of current PM maturity
Create a clear roadmap to elevate to best practice applying the Thales Chorus (Thales’ Business Management System) practices.
Position the PMO as demand and pipeline management function, providing leadership with timely visibility for confident decision-making.
Lead risk peer reviews on complex bids and projects
Manage the monthly Operations Dashboard, and support the business through its upcoming ERP transition.
Your Experience
Significant hands-on PMO leadership experience across large-scale, multi-discipline project environments, with a track record of building and improving PMO functions at scale.
Deep expertise in Earned Value Management (EVM to AS4817:2006), cost and schedule variance analysis, and portfolio reporting that drives leadership decisions.
Proficiency in PM tools including Primavera, Cobra, Acumen Fuse & Risk, and Power BI with experience driving tool and process standardisation across dispersed teams.
Demonstrated ability to develop PMO capability in others through coaching, mentoring, and structured development, building a team that grows with the business.
Strong stakeholder influencing skills with experience operating in complex, matrixed environments where outcomes depend on relationships as much as process.
