At Thales, we know technology has the ability to make our world more secure, sustainable, and inclusive – and that it’s all driven by human intelligence.

Because it takes human intelligence to build and power the systems and solutions that people depend on every day. So we stay curious and make space for diverse points of view. We share what we know and we challenge what’s possible.

From manufacturing and engineering to cybersecurity and space, we’re driving progress in some of the world’s most important industries – and working together to build a future we can all trust.

Reporting to the VTS Operations Director, you will lead Project Management Office (PMO) operations across our Land and Munitions domains, owning the capability, standards, and overall performance of project management across both areas.

In this critical role, you will strengthen governance, transparency, and delivery performance across the domains by leading risk reviews across complex bids and projects, driving operational reporting and workload planning, and supporting the upcoming ERP transition.

Based at the World Trade Centre, Melbourne on Wurundjeri land, you will take a hands-on approach to overseeing all PMO activities across the portfolio of bids and projects. You will ensure a robust planning and reporting cycle is in place, proactively identify and flag cost and schedule variances, and work closely with the business leadership team and bid/project managers to drive timely corrective action.

Your Role

  • Lead, nurture, mentor, and coach the PMO team

  • Conduct a structured gap analysis of current PM maturity

  • Create a clear roadmap to elevate to best practice applying the Thales Chorus (Thales’ Business Management System) practices.

  • Position the PMO as demand and pipeline management function, providing leadership with timely visibility for confident decision-making.

  • Lead risk peer reviews on complex bids and projects

  • Manage the monthly Operations Dashboard, and support the business through its upcoming ERP transition.

Your Experience

  • Significant hands-on PMO leadership experience across large-scale, multi-discipline project environments, with a track record of building and improving PMO functions at scale.

  • Deep expertise in Earned Value Management (EVM to AS4817:2006), cost and schedule variance analysis, and portfolio reporting that drives leadership decisions.

  • Proficiency in PM tools including Primavera, Cobra, Acumen Fuse & Risk, and Power BI with experience driving tool and process standardisation across dispersed teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop PMO capability in others through coaching, mentoring, and structured development, building a team that grows with the business.

  • Strong stakeholder influencing skills with experience operating in complex, matrixed environments where outcomes depend on relationships as much as process.

Our Benefits

  • Competitive remuneration + Super + Bonus + Medical Insurance

  • Annualised Performance Review Process

  • ThalesFlex – Hybrid work environment

  • Fitness Passport Discount – Access to a network of Gyms across AUS

  • Employee discounts with a number of affiliates (Travel, Car hire, Tech, Medical Insurance)

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
