In this newly created role, as Head of Compliance you will be responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of our Group’s compliance framework, policies, and practices to ensure adherence to legal, regulatory and ethical obligations.

In so doing you will provide strategic direction, oversight and independent assurance to senior management and the Board that compliance (existing and emerging) risks are identified, managed and monitored effectively and will advise senior management, the Board and the Board Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee on compliance risks and obligations (existing and emerging), and manage regulatory relationships with ASIC, AUSTRAC, AFCA, NDIA and the OAIC.

The three core pillars of this role are as follows:

  • Promote a strong compliance culture within MMS
  • Establish a uniform (risk based) approach to compliance across the Group, consistent with the Group’s strategy and business objectives
  • Oversee the monitoring, measuring and reporting of compliance.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the compliance function at a Group level while collaborating with business-level risk and compliance personnel
  • Develop, review and update policies, procedures and controls to mitigate compliance and regulatory risk
  • Develop, implement and maintain the Group’s compliance management system, including policies, frameworks and controls aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
  • Maintain the Group’s compliance obligations register and ensure accountability and timely reporting to regulators and other stakeholders
  • Identify, assess and monitor compliance risks (including in relation to AFSL, ACL, AML/CTF and privacy) in partnership with risk management, internal audit and legal teams
  • Manage investigations of compliance incidents and breaches, and reporting (internal / external) as required
  • Manage key regulatory relationships, including with ASIC, AUSTRAC, AFCA, NDIA and the OAIC
  • Fulfill the statutory role / function of AML/CTF Compliance Officer for the Group and be the Group’s Privacy Officer

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Over 10 years’ experience in senior compliance roles in a commercial environment with a focus on financial services
  • Bachelor’s degree in law, finance, business or a related discipline, with relevant postgraduate qualifications or professional certifications, is highly desirable
  • Deep understanding of regulatory frameworks applicable to the Group
  • Proven track record managing compliance programs within financial services or similarly regulated sectors
  • Demonstrated experience in building and managing regulatory relationships
  • Demonstrated experience in developing or uplifting compliance strategy, framework and/or program
