As the Head of L1 Risk and Compliance, you will lead the development and execution of strategies that strengthen the Money business’s approach to Risk, Compliance, and Operational Excellence.

  • Conduct comprehensive enterprise-wide risks assessments to identify, evaluate and prioritise operational risks, ensuring effective mitigation strategies are implemented.

  • Design, implement and maintain robust risk and control frameworks to meet regulatory and business requirements.

  • Design and embed effective controls into core processes, optimise their performance, and conduct ongoing testing and monitoring to maintain a robust and resilient risk environment.

  • Establish and maintain strong governance practices to ensure effective oversight, accountability, and decision-making on risk and control activities.

  • Provide timely, insightful, and actionable reporting on operational risks, control performance, and key risk indicators.

  • Monitor and report on the resolution of incidents and control failures, ensuring root cause analysis, effective and timely resolution, and preventative measures.

  • Serve as a SME on risk, providing guidance and support to the Business/Risk Owners on risk management and control best practices.

  • Drive initiatives to nurture and promote a strong risk culture. This includes building strong relationships with stakeholders to embed risk management and controls into day-to-day operations and decision-making processes.

  • Lead and mentor a high performing team, building capabilities in risk and operational management.

Ideally, we're looking for the following:

  • Minimum 5-7 Years of work experience in the following (or a combination of the following) fields: Audit, Risk Management, Business Consulting, , Governance, Quality Assurance, Process Re-engineering.

  • Experience working in a financial institution, particularly within a Risk and Governance function, will be considered favourably.

  • Experience in process improvement methodologies and change implementation will be considered favourably.

  • Independent, self-motivated, and highly driven individual with a passion and commitment to risk management, quality, process improvement and simplification.

  • Proven experience in leading and managing a team of professionals in a fast-paced environment. You should be able to inspire, motivate, and mentor team members and deliver exceptional results yourself.

  • High attention to detail and passion to drive projects to completion.

  • Highly collaborative, strong communication skills with exceptional interpersonal skills, as the role requires working with and influencing multiple stakeholders across different levels.

  • Fast learner with the ability to broadly understand processes, roles & responsibilities and functions in a complex institutional setup.

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a market reputation for ‘making things happen’ and delivering outputs.

  • Innovative thinker with a demonstrated ability to work with others to problem solve who brings a passion for continuous improvement.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
