Australian Venue Co. is one of Australia’s leading hospitality groups, operating a diverse portfolio of pubs, bars and venues across Australia and New Zealand.

We are looking for a Financial Accountant to join our Finance team in Melbourne. This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant with 3–4 years’ experience in a Big 4 or mid-tier audit firm, or a similar financial accounting role, to broaden their commercial experience in a growing multi-entity business.

About the role

Reporting to the Corporate Finance Manager, you will support accurate and timely financial accounting, operational rent accounting, related-party reconciliations and construction work-in-progress reporting.

You will play an important role in month-end and year-end reporting, budgeting, audit requirements, statutory reporting and AASB 16 lease accounting. Working closely with Finance, Property, Leasing and Operations, you will help ensure financial information is accurate, well-supported and delivered within agreed deadlines.

Key responsibilities
  • Prepare operational rent accounting, including reviewing lease management platform data, ledger postings, accruals and prepayments.
  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations, investigate variances and coordinate the resolution of reconciling items.
  • Support rent and related-party variance analysis across Finance, Property, Leasing and Operations.
  • Prepare annual rent budgets and weekly turnover rent estimates.
  • Support half-year and year-end financial reporting and statutory accounts.
  • Coordinate and compile information required for external audits and reviews.
  • Assist with AASB 16 lease calculations and statutory lease schedules.
  • Support acquisition accounting calculations as required.
  • Prepare capitalised rent entries for venues undergoing brownfield renovations.
  • Assist with accounting-to-tax reconciliations and tax provision requirements.
  • Apply relevant accounting policies and Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Contribute to improvements in finance processes, controls, systems and reporting.

About you

You will be an organised and commercially minded accountant who takes ownership, pays close attention to detail and enjoys solving problems. You will be confident working with reconciliations, financial data and deadlines, while being able to explain variances and technical accounting matters clearly to both Finance and non-Finance stakeholders.

You will ideally have:

  • 3–4 years’ experience in a Big 4 or mid-tier audit firm, or a similar financial accounting role.
  • A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.
  • Experience with reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, budgeting and variance analysis.
  • Experience working with lease, property or operational data.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, ideally at an intermediate to advanced level.
  • Experience in a multi-entity, retail, hospitality, property or project-based environment.
  • Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Progress towards, or an interest in pursuing, CA, CPA or an equivalent qualification is desirable.
  • Experience with LeaseEagle, finance systems or reporting tools is desirable.
Why join us?

At Australian Venue Co., we value:

  • Agility and the ability to adapt in a fast-moving business.
  • Resilience and a positive approach.
  • Ownership and accountability.
  • Commercial curiosity and continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration across Finance, Property, Leasing and Operations.
  • Development and ongoing professional growth.

If you are ready to move beyond traditional audit work and build valuable commercial financial accounting experience in a dynamic hospitality business, we would love to hear from you.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
