The Chief Engineer – Engineering Data Platform will be a core technical leader shaping the roadmap and architecture of the CTO Engineering Data Platform. This role will establish trusted, governed and reusable engineering data products that enable data-driven decision making, engineering intelligence and AI-enabled engineering capabilities across the organisation.

Reporting to the General Manager Engineering Platform, you will define the technical direction, target state architecture and engineering standards for the Engineering Data Platform. You will work across Engineering Platform, CTO, Group Data, Architecture, Risk, Security and Service Management to deliver scalable, resilient and secure data platform capabilities.

As a Chief Engineer, you will operate as a senior technical authority and trusted advisor—leading through technical depth, strong architectural judgement and enterprise influence, while mentoring engineers and uplifting engineering practices across the platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Technical Strategy and Architecture – Define roadmap, architecture and guardrails.

  • Engineering Data Platform Delivery – Lead cloud-native data platform capabilities.

  • Data Products and Engineering Intelligence – Deliver trusted data products and insights.

  • Data Governance, Security and Risk – Ensure quality, lineage and compliance.

  • Engineering Excellence – Champion DevSecOps, DataOps, automation and reliability.

  • Stakeholder Engagement – Influence senior stakeholders and translate needs into outcomes.

  • Innovation, AI and Automation – Enable AI and data-driven engineering.

  • Leadership and Capability Uplift – Mentor and build engineering capability.

Technical Skills and Experience:

  • Data Platform Architecture – Lakehouse, data mesh, domain-aligned products.

  • Data Engineering & DataOps – Ingestion, CI/CD, testing and observability.

  • Cloud Platforms – AWS, containers, serverless and infrastructure as code.

  • Governance & Security – Data quality, lineage, privacy and compliance.

  • Engineering Intelligence – Metrics, dashboards and reusable data patterns.

  • AI Enablement – Data for ML, automation and AI use cases.

  • Software Engineering – APIs, integration and developer experience.

  • Observability & Operations – Monitoring, SLAs and incident management.

  • Security & Risk – Secure lifecycle and risk-based decisioning.

Chief Engineer Practice Expectations:
