Amber is an entirely new way to buy and sell power, designed for a world powered by renewable energy. We give customers direct access to the real-time wholesale electricity price as it varies every 5 mins and the technology to shift more of their energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid. It’s a cheaper way to buy power, a smarter way to sell power, and the fastest way for Australia to reach 100% renewable energy.
We are a clear category leader in Australia for home battery automation and are growing rapidly (over 80k customers). We have also recently expanded into licensing our core technology to utilities overseas, including a partnership with E.ON Next in the UK.
Amber is backed by top Australian and international investors including Square Peg, Main Sequence, Breakthrough Victoria, Commonwealth Bank, NRMA, Gentrack, ETF Partners (UK/Europe based), and E.ON Next.
We are scaling rapidly and you’d be joining a team of over 200 committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and purpose-driven culture as we transform a major industry.
Our products are reshaping home energy: Amber for Batteries cuts bills by exporting stored energy at wholesale prices of up to $20/kWh, and Amber for EVs enables the cheapest, cleanest charging.
In 2026, we will push this even further with our new vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology.
💻 About the role
This role sits within the BD team. You'll work closely with our V2G Business Development Manager, who coordinates our V2G strategy and manages our ongoing EV OEM and key V2G partner relationships once they're live.
You'll also be working with our Strategic Partnerships Manager, who leads the commercial negotiations and owns the deal-making across EV OEM, EVSE OEM and network relationships.
You'll take direct ownership of a defined set of relationships and initiatives from day one, with room to grow your scope over time.
As a Business Development Manager focused on V2G, you'll own a portfolio of BD initiatives and drive them end-to-end.
You'll originate net-new partnerships and channels, manage Amber's presence in the forums shaping this market, and carry the business-development and policy groundwork on emerging flexibility streams.
You'll own the relationships and initiatives handed to you, keeping partners moving through onboarding, integration and delivery, while supporting the relationship owners on the rest.
It's a role for someone who's equally comfortable opening doors, holding technical and regulatory detail in a commercial conversation, and making sure things actually land.
👉🏽 Responsibilities
Drive the BD and policy contribution for emerging flexibility streams - support the build-out of FCAS, Voluntary Scheduling and related frameworks (e.g. the Market Visibility Framework) from a business-development angle: working with the Strategic Partnerships Manager to lock in key delivery partners (ie FCAS meters and associated installations), connecting these streams to other BD opportunities, and contributing to policy while the rules are still being written. You will also be responsible for cross-functional engagement within Amber, with the Product team as key stakeholders responsible for the delivery of these flex workstreams.
Drive net-new partnership and channel origination - feed the pipeline alongside the relationship owners across OEM, EVSE and new acquisition channels (e.g. novated lease and EV retail), helping make sure new opportunities don't fall through the gaps.
Vendor and partner relationship management - This includes owning key partner relationships and supporting others such as BYD where it will be necessary to track our obligations including vehicle sales going through the BYD channel and other BD partner channels. This role will be responsible for maintaining accurate records and producing regular reporting for internal and external stakeholders. You will be responsible for keeping partners moving through onboarding, integration and delivery, tracking commitments, and handling the day-to-day.
Identifying and enrolling - Amber in key state and federal government initiatives to drive the uptake of home batteries and EVs - this may include engagement with key industry bodies such as EV Council and V2G networks.
Manage key BD initiatives and drive thought leadership - own the planning, coordination and commercial objectives for priority events and industry forums (e.g. Everything Electric, Plugfest), secure speaking and profile opportunities (with the Head of V2G and marketing/PR team), and make sure Amber shows up with clear goals and strong follow-through.
Cross-functional alignment - Work closely with marketing, finance, product, sales, and customer ops to ensure BD initiatives are well-communicated and effectively executed across the business. Socialise new integrations and programs internally to prepare teams for launch or program updates.
International engagement - we are starting to plan a rollout of our V2G product (as we have already done with our battery and EV product) into international markets where we license our tech to key retailers. This role may support getting an international pilot off the ground.
Product Knowledge: Develop a strong understanding of our products and effectively communicate their value, and its application to prospective partnerships.
BD process improvements: Support implementing and improving our BD team processes. This includes managing an up-to-date pipeline and communicating opportunities with supporting business functions.
Identifying and applying for Government grants that are aligned with Amber’s company goals, to help fund Amber’s mission (e.g. State and Federal Gov grants, ARENA grants etc).
👉🏽 You're probably a match if
You have a demonstrated track record of managing complex, multi-workstream projects with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
You take end-to-end ownership, given the goal, you work out what to do and how, then make it happen without needing close direction.
You're confident initiating relationships from a standing start, comfortable picking up the phone, reaching out cold, and opening doors.
You bring commercial judgement, you can spot which opportunities matter most, park the rest, and connect delivery to business outcomes.
You can hold technical and regulatory detail in a commercial conversation, or get up to speed fast on energy markets, FCAS and the policy landscape.
You're an exceptional communicator who uses data to inform decisions and bring stakeholders along, comfortable presenting to executives, writing clear updates, and handling difficult conversations with partners.
You thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, highly organised, able to juggle multiple projects, and build structure and process where little exists.
Bonus: you have experience in the energy sector, EV ecosystem, or working with government-funded programs.
