About the Role

The Azure Cloud Engineer supports and enhances BDO’s Azure environment to keep it secure, reliable and scalable. Working with the Manager of Cloud Engineering, you’ll balance hands-on platform operations and forward-looking improvements, helping shape cloud solutions with Service Lines. This role is suited to an engineer with strong foundational capability and the right mindset. We are looking for someone curious, pragmatic and confident in their thinking, and able to contribute to discussions to help uplift cloud maturity across the organisation.

About the Team

You’ll join a collaborative Cloud Engineering function working closely with Architects, SREs, Developers and Cloud Run teams. The team is focused on modern engineering practices, automation-first delivery and continuous improvement, with a strong emphasis on learning and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain and optimise Azure services for performance, security and availability

  • Support landing zones, governance, RBAC, networking and enterprise controls

  • Drive cost optimisation through FinOps practices (tagging, budgets, optimisation)

  • Develop reusable IaC (Bicep, Terraform) and automation for consistent delivery

  • Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines and platform templates

  • Enable integration services (API Management, Logic Apps, Service Bus)

  • Partner with Service Lines to shape secure, scalable cloud solutions early in the lifecycle

  • Support platform operations including incidents, monitoring and troubleshooting

  • Implement observability and security tooling (Azure Monitor, Sentinel, Defender)

  • Maintain documentation, runbooks and platform standards

  • Support networking (VNets, VPN, ExpressRoute, DNS, firewalls, private endpoints)

  • Contribute to continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and platform uplift initiatives

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

  • Degree in IT, Computer Science or equivalent experience

  • Azure certifications (AZ-900, AZ-104 desirable; AZ-305, AZ-700 advantageous) and/or DevOps/IaC certifications (e.g. AZ-400, Terraform) preferred; ITIL v4 desirable

  • Hands-on experience supporting Azure cloud environments with exposure to IaC (Bicep, Terraform, ARM), governance, RBAC and landing zones

  • Experience or exposure to CI/CD, automation, modern engineering practices and platform operations (incident response, monitoring, troubleshooting)

  • Familiarity with networking and hybrid connectivity, plus security and monitoring tooling (e.g. Defender for Cloud, Azure Monitor)

  • Strong foundational Azure, networking and automation knowledge

  • Analytical, curious and innovative mindset with confidence to challenge and contribute ideas

  • Collaborative approach with strong communication skills and willingness to learn and compromise

  • High attention to detail with a focus on reliability, governance, continuous improvement and platform uplift
