Your New Role

Are you an Application Engineer who enjoys building solutions end‑to‑end and wants to work with modern cloud, AI and automation technologies?

Reporting to the Manager, Application Engineering, the Application Engineer is a hands‑on technical role focused on developing, productionising and optimising business‑driven applications, functions and features across multiple teams and initiatives.

This role suits an engineer who’s seen how other corporate organisations do things, and who can work autonomously, but also enjoys collaborating with architects, product teams and other engineers.  You’ll work across the full lifecycle helping ensure solutions are scalable, reusable and aligned to engineering best practice.

We’re looking for more than just a coder.  This is a role for someone curious, adaptable and forward‑looking.  Someone who embraces AI and automation, pushes boundaries, and is happy to challenge the status quo.  Someone that will ask the questions, put forward their ideas, and is comfortable playing different roles as the Team and future ways of working evolve.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build and enhance applications, features and functions aligned to target architecture and best practices
  • Develop and deploy solutions in a DevOps environment, embracing AI‑ and automation‑first engineering approaches
  • Build solutions that integrate AI capabilities and enable AI‑powered outcomes
  • Work closely with stakeholders, business users and other engineers to deliver high‑quality outcomes
  • Support operational management of applications, including monitoring, observability, incident resolution and lifecycle management
  • Identify opportunities to improve solutions through reuse, automation and new technologies
  • Contribute to engineering culture, communities of practice and shared ways of working across the Fund

What You’ll Need

  • Experience as a mid‑tier application engineer (typically 3–5+ years), able to work autonomously
  • Strong experience across the Microsoft technology stack, including .NET frameworks, Azure services.
  • Experience with programming and scripting, including Python (required), Power Platform and frontend technologies (e.g. React)
  • Exposure to DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Agile and DevSecOps ways of working
  • Experience delivering solutions in regulated environments or financial services (highly regarded)
  • Strong problem‑solving ability, collaboration skills and a proactive, learning‑oriented mindset
  • Interest in AI‑enabled and agentic solutions, and incorporating automation into engineering practices

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
