Working at Transurban is different; it’s a place where you can see the benefits of your work play out in real life, every day. We create city‑sized solutions—building and operating safer, smarter, and more sustainable transport networks—to solve pressing challenges that are slowing cities down.

About the role

Help keep our financial engine running smoothly. We’re on the lookout for a detail‑driven, systems‑savvy Accountant to support accurate, timely and high‑quality financial outcomes across our business. This role is central to maintaining the integrity of our financial data—covering month‑end processes, balance sheet stewardship, statutory reporting support, and continuous improvement of our accounting practices. You’ll play a key part in ensuring our financial controls are strong, our reporting is reliable, and our stakeholders have the information they need to make confident decisions.

Day‑to‑day, you will:
  • Understand and adhere to accounting policies, processes, and key financial controls

  • Identify opportunities for standardisation and automation, and support improvements in systems and processes.

  • Meet month-end close timetables, and prepare and post various accounting journals with appropriate supporting documentation

  • Raise external invoices, monitor settlement, and follow up on payment issues with business stakeholders

  • Prepare intercompany charges, raise invoices, and coordinate settlements

  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner

  • Prepare cashflow statements

  • Liaise with stakeholders to resolve issues, regularly review and clear accounts, manage ageing balances and ensure accurate asset and liability classifications.

  • Update major maintenance provision models during budget cycles

  • Support internal and external audit processes, including information gathering and liaising with audit team to resolve issues as they arise

  • Prepare various disclosures and calculations as part of cyclical reporting (quarterly, half-yearly and yearly)

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills, including:
  • Appropriately degree-qualified in Commerce or Accounting with a CA/CPA (or equivalent) or in progress to complete

  • Relevant accounting experience in audit or financial accounting. This could be your first move from Chartered (Big4 or mid-tier), or a move from industry.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality outcomes

  • Confidence working with systems and understanding data models

  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to a team environment

  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to partner across functions

  • A desire to learn, improve processes, and embrace new ways of working

If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.

With a career at Transurban, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits, including:
  • Flexible working options, including the ability to purchase up to six weeks of additional leave each year

  • 16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), plus superannuation on unpaid leave

  • Career growth and leadership development opportunities

  • Wellbeing support from Headspace to EAP and wellness facilities

  • Share offers and discounted insurance benefits

  • Team social events, volunteer days, and community give‑back initiatives

We offer a range of flexible working and leave options so you can balance your work and life commitments and interests. Have a conversation with us about how this could work for you.

We embrace diversity with a foundation of safety, wellbeing and inclusion; where everyone belongs. We treat everyone with fairness, consideration and respect, regardless of gender, gender identity, marital or family status, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural or socio‑economic background, perspective, and experience. We want to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe to express ideas, questions and concerns.

We strongly encourage applications from candidates of diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people living with disability. If you require any adjustments or support during the recruitment process, please contact us at [email protected].

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
