If you are an undergraduate Mechanical, Mechatronics or Product Engineering student looking to jump start your career, we are offering a 13-month full time internship based at our Scoresby office.  Our Scoresby office is offering rare 13-month full time Mechanical Engineering Internship opportunities commencing 27th January 2027 for current Mechanical, Mechatronics or Product Engineering students who are keen to utilise theoretical skills learnt in their degree and develop practical skills in the workforce.

In this role you will make an impact and gain experience in the following ways:

  • Being part of a great team of experienced engineers working with internal and external customers across multiple departments.
  • Create 3D CAD models and develop design concepts within project specifications. 
  • Produce detailed engineering drawings and documentation for manufacturing release. 
  • Coordinate engineering change requests and support engineering change management activities for new and existing products. 
  • Liaise with procurement, supply chain, suppliers and cross-functional teams to support product development activities.
  • Gain hands-on exposure to verification testing, data analysis and engineering reporting. 
  • Prepare and present findings for design reviews and engineering projects. 
  • Develop proficiency in CAD and drafting practices aligned with Cummins standards and specifications.
  • Coordinate product design and drawing development with drafting teams. 
  • Participate in project management activities for new product development projects. 
  • Gain hands-on assembly experience with engine power pack and packaged products.
Responsibilities

About You: 

To qualify for this undergraduate internship, it is essential that you:

  • Are currently studying a degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic or Product Engineering, ideally in your 3rd or 4th year of study

  • Have between 1 and 8 units of study left to complete of your undergraduate degree as of January 2027

  • Ideally completed the penultimate year with one final year of university left before graduation.

  • Are available for the full 13 months and be willing to defer your studies for that duration.

Note: Applicants that do not meet these qualifying requirements unfortunately will not be considered.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will possess skills/abilities or be able to perform:

  • Strong academic results in Mathematics; Thermodynamics; Mechanical Design; Professional Practice.

  • Drafting or CAD modelling skills (Solidworks, CREO, Inventor or AutoCAD).

  • Excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail.

  • Understanding of product lifecycle management principles

  • Some project management skills.

  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Strong computer literacy and a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, a team work ethic and the ability to think and operate autonomously and independently when required. 

  • Knowledge of internal combustion engines is highly desirable

This is a 13-month, full time, paid placement and the successful candidate will be required to defer their studies for the duration of the program.
