Shield AI Employee Perspectives
Shield AI demonstrated how Hivemind, its AI pilot software, can coordinate multiple uncrewed maritime vessels during a shared mission. Working with Taiwan-based unmanned-systems manufacturer Thunder Tiger, two SeaShark vessels autonomously planned routes, searched a maritime area, identified a target vessel and coordinated an escort using radar, imagery and vessel-tracking data. The milestone shows how Shield AI’s teams are extending autonomous decision-making across platforms and domains to support distributed intelligence and maritime security operations.
“Hivemind continues to prove that true mission autonomy can scale across domains, platforms, and functional assets, unlocking new capabilities for distributed intelligence and maritime security missions.”
— Nathan Michael, Chief Technology Officer
Shield AI developed V-BAT Teams, an AI pilot system that allows multiple V-BAT aircraft to sense their surroundings, coordinate with one another and carry out missions with limited operator input. V-BAT is Shield AI’s vertical-takeoff-and-landing uncrewed aircraft, while Hivemind is the autonomy software that enables teams of aircraft to operate in high-threat environments without relying on GPS, communications or continuous remote control. Building the product required close coordination across hardware, software, systems engineering and testing teams, supported by clear objectives, frequent communication and rapid learning from testing.
“Everything we do is a team effort. Shield AI’s success is predicated on a culture of hard work, diligence and mission alignment. I am lucky to be surrounded by teammates that uphold a standard of excellence and challenge me to be constantly improving.”
