Job Summary

Job Description

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to operate at the intersection of network engineering, civil infrastructure, and wireless innovation, working across large-scale and complex network environments.

You will contribute to the evolution of wireless network standards and practices, working closely with engineering, deployment, and operational teams to ensure solutions are scalable, compliant, and fit for purpose.

The role provides strong exposure to cross-functional stakeholders and the opportunity to influence how wireless networks are designed, built, and deployed across diverse environments.

Key Responsibilities

Network Design & Delivery

  • Lead the planning, design, and deployment of wireless network solutions across Mobiles (4G/5G), Satellite, Microwave Radio, and related technologies

  • Coordinate end-to-end reference site design, build, and validation to support RF design and optimisation

  • Conduct on-site assessments, providing design and construction recommendations aligned to Telstra standards

Architecture & Standards

  • Define and validate reference architectures for new and existing wireless solutions

  • Apply standards including civil design, construction, earthing, shelter, and external plant frameworks

  • Maintain alignment to evolving network, civil, and infrastructure standards

Engineering Integration & Tools

  • Enable integration of new hardware solutions into design and planning tools (e.g., CANRAD, CSDT, CADLINK)

  • Support startup data creation, validation, and troubleshooting where automated tools are not available

  • Act as a power user of design tools, identifying defects, gaps, and improvement opportunities

Operational Readiness & Deployment

  • Manage Design Build Operate Requirements (DBORs) and ensure readiness for deployment

  • Identify dependencies and risks across systems, infrastructure, and deployment activities

  • Support trial deployments to validate solutions within live network environments

Stakeholder Engagement & Influence

  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders including engineering teams, RF optimisation, PMOs, and construction partners

  • Provide technical guidance and influence decision-making to ensure successful delivery outcomes

  • Represent Telstra in engagement with vendors, contractors, and partners

Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving

  • Identify risks, system issues, and inefficiencies, contributing to improved engineering practices

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting across design tools, network data, and system integrations

  • Support the evolution of engineering practices through innovation, feedback, and standardisation

About You

You are an experienced wireless network engineer with strong technical depth, a practical mindset, and the ability to operate across complex, multi-system environments.

You bring:

  • Strong experience in wireless network engineering across Mobiles (4G/5G), deployment, and site construction

  • Deep understanding of network design, RF systems, and end-to-end site architecture

  • Proven capability working with civil construction, infrastructure standards, and field deployment environments

  • Experience using network design and planning tools such as CANRAD, CSDT, or similar

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and data accuracy

  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders and translate technical requirements into practical outcomes

  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence across cross-functional teams

Highly desirable:

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related discipline

  • Experience in civil design, construction, certification, and infrastructure delivery within telecommunications environments

  • Exposure to earthing standards, shelter design, and site infrastructure frameworks

  • Experience working in large-scale, complex network environments

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
