About You 

The Technologist - Thin Film & Plasma Processing plays an important role in supporting the Micro Nano Research Facility (MNRF), providing specialist technical expertise across thin film deposition, plasma processing and advanced research infrastructure. Working closely with researchers, students, industry partners and technical colleagues, you will help deliver high-quality facility services that support research, teaching and industry engagement activities.  

Reporting to the Technical Coordinator, you will contribute to the day-to-day operation of specialist laboratories and equipment, provide user training and technical support, and help maintain a safe, efficient and collaborative research environment. You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of facility capabilities, processes and services.  

 

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:  

  • A degree in engineering, materials science, physics or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and relevant experience. Postgraduate qualifications are highly regarded.  

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with thin film deposition and plasma processing systems, including equipment operation, troubleshooting, process development and optimisation. Experience with technologies such as PVD, sputtering, evaporation, PECVD, plasma etching or related semiconductor fabrication processes would be highly regarded. 

  • Demonstrated experience independently managing and supporting specialist research equipment, including equipment operation, troubleshooting, maintenance coordination, technical documentation and user support. 

  • Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide training and technical guidance to users with diverse levels of experience.  

  • A strong commitment to safety, service excellence and continuous improvement in a laboratory or research setting.

The Micro Nano Research Facility 

The Micro Nano Research Facility (MNRF) is a shared research facility within RMIT's STEM College supporting multidisciplinary micro- and nanotechnology research. Its specialist laboratories provide capabilities for the design, modelling, fabrication, packaging and characterisation of micro- and nanoscale devices. MNRF provides access to advanced infrastructure and technical expertise for RMIT researchers and students, industry and external collaborators, and forms part of the Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF) Victorian Node.
