The Technical Design Authority will play a critical role in driving the architecture, design, and technical oversight of Motorola Solutions' mission-critical communication systems. This position requires deep expertise in Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems, specifically the ASTRO P25 platform, Flex Paging Sub-Networks, Voice/Telephony Logging Systems, as well as a strong ability to lead and guide technical decisions across multi-disciplinary teams.
This position requires a result-driven professional with a strong engineering background in Motorola ASTRO P25 to support network development, operations and network transformation. The Technical Design Authority will have end-to-end ownership of the overall network from a technical perspective including network architecture, innovation and security.
In this role, you will be expected to issue and conduct end-to-end management of technical solutions, designs and network changes & change management. You will work closely with engineering, sales, pre-sales, projects and operations in order to discover business requirements and customer needs to drive network innovation and transformation.
Job Description

Technical Authority providing overall technical leadership for the project implementation. Works with customer to understand overall solutions needs and functionality of MSI and third party applications. Takes ownership of the technical solution from pre and post-sale. Works with the project manager to develop the project deployment schedule. Identify technical risks of the projects and works with PM on mitigation plans. Identify customer expectation mismatch to how products work and works with PM on mitigation plans. Technical counterpart with the PM in third party vendor, customer, and internal facing meetings. Owns project change control as it pertains to the overall technical solution.

●    Act as the primary technical authority for the ASTRO P25 Radio System and associated technologies, as well as Paging system ensuring that all designs align with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and Motorola Solutions' product strategy.
●    Develop and maintain the overall architecture of the P25 system, including infrastructure, subscriber equipment, and network interfaces.
●    Review and approve engineering designs, ensuring consistency, interoperability, and scalability across the system.
●    Ensure designs meet P25 compliance standards, cybersecurity requirements, and other applicable standards.
●    Identify opportunities to enhance system performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency through innovative solutions.
●    Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and customers to define system requirements and translate them into actionable design specifications.
●    Provide expertise in troubleshooting complex issues and guiding resolution efforts at both the system and component levels.
●    Create detailed technical documentation and provide guidance/training to engineering teams and other stakeholders.
●    Stay updated on emerging technologies in LMR, RF communications, and public safety systems to define future roadmaps for the ASTRO P25 platform.
●    Oversees changes to align with best practices.
●    Assess and document customer requirements.
●    Articulate the value proposition of new solutions/products/services/changes and ensure the account teams have the necessary understanding to professionally sell the solution.
●    Support complicated Sales proposals and be the trusted advisor to the customers and internal stakeholders.
●    Advise customer on the impact of changes the customer is looking at making on the network.
●    Responsible for signing off on engineering designs, changes and implementations in the network and be the single point of contact for the customer regarding engineering matters affecting their network.
●    Support the account team in terms of internal and external technical presentations and business development.
●    Evaluate different Motorola technologies and solutions in order to determine the best fit for customer needs, operational requirements and budget. Work with Sales to develop overall sales strategies based on the customer’s requirements and resources.
●    Participating in contract negotiations.
●    Interface with Motorola Product Teams regarding solutions or new products. Use understanding of systems, requirements and customer needs to request new products, systems, and features in order to strengthen Motorola’s solutions offerings.
●    Communicate effectively with senior leadership, providing regular updates on engineering performance.
●    Comply with Motorola Quality policies and practices.
●    Work closely with Cyber Security team to ensure best security practices are followed.
 


Basic Requirements

Essential: 
●    Tertiary qualifications in engineering, Telecommunications, or equivalent field.
Desirable:
●    Eligibility for or Member of the Institution of Engineers Australia 
●    Technical training in Electronics / IT or Radio Communications.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Essential: 
●    Extensive experience in LMR systems, with a strong emphasis on ASTRO P25 technology and public safety communication requirements.
Desirable:        
●    Deep understanding of RF communication principles, IP networking, and system interoperability.
●    Proven track record in system architecture and design oversight.
