BE THE DIFFERENCE
At AIA we don’t simply believe in being ‘the best’. We believe in better – because there’s no limit to how far ‘better’ can take us. Everything we do is driven by our purpose to make a difference by helping people embrace Healthier, Longer, Better Lives. And every one of our people has an important role to play. If you want to make a difference by helping shape a healthier, better-protected Australia, read on.

The opportunity:

The Tech Lead – AI (Delivering Business Functions) leads the delivery of AI enabled solutions that enhance and transform core business functions across the organisation. Working under the guidance of AI Architect, the role translates business needs into secure, scalable, and responsible AI solutions aligned with enterprise architecture, data standards, AI governance, and AIA Australia’s development standards and practices.

The role provides hands on technical leadership to integrate approved third party and cloud based AI capabilities into enterprise applications and workflows, ensuring adherence to development standards across the end to end solution lifecycle. The Tech Lead ensures solutions are production ready, compliant, and deliver measurable business value, while mentoring engineers, providing technical oversight to vendors where required, and contributing to the uplift of responsible AI and engineering practices across the organisation.

To do this successfully you will:

  • Lead the end‑to‑end technical delivery of AI‑enabled solutions, ensuring they are designed, built and deployed in line with approved architecture and engineering patterns.

  • Evaluate, adopt and integrate approved third‑party and cloud‑based AI services, frameworks and modules into enterprise systems and workflows.

  • Ensure AI solutions are production ready, scalable, supportable and capable of delivering measurable business outcomes.

  • Align solution design with enterprise architecture, data standards and responsible AI requirements, contributing to governance forums such as SGF and ARB.

  • Collaborate with delivery leads, SMEs and product owners to translate business needs into effective AI solutions, providing technical input into planning, estimation and risk management.

  • Provide technical oversight to delivery partners and vendors while clearly communicating constraints, dependencies and risks to technical and non technical stakeholders.

  • Mentor engineers, uplift AI development capability, and contribute to the improvement of AI standards, reusable components and engineering practices.

Successful applications will demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualification in Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience

  • Commercial experience delivering complex software solutions, preferably within financial services or regulated enterprise environments.

  • Strong hands on experience across multiple programming languages and modern software engineering practices.

  • Proven experience delivering AI enabled solutions for business functions, including solution design, integration, and operationalisation of third party and cloud-based AI services within enterprise environments.

  • Working understanding of applied AI concepts (e.g. GenAI, MLenabled services, intelligent automation) and their responsible use in solving business problems.

  • Proven experience delivering solutions on Microsoft Azure using PaaS services (e.g. Azure Functions, Azure API Management (APIM), Cosmos DB, and other native Azure services).

  • Working knowledge of software design and architecture, including the application of architectural and design patterns.

  • Experience operating within Hybrid, Agile, and Waterfall delivery methodologies and formal SDLC and governance frameworks.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and mentoring, collaborate with architects and delivery leads, and communicate effectively with nontechnical stakeholders.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
