About the role

We're seeking a Tax Consultant to join our Taxation team for a fixed-term period, supporting our tax compliance, technical advisory, and strategic project work across the Transurban Group.

You'll join a collaborative and high-performing team who pride themselves on delivering technical excellence while working closely with Finance, Legal, Treasury, and senior leadership to drive strategic outcomes.

As our Tax Consultant, you'll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It's meaningful, challenging and exciting work.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Prepare and coordinate corporate income tax returns and tax effect accounting for half-year and full-year reporting periods, liaising with external advisers and the Finance team
  • Conduct tax technical research and draft Reasonably Arguable Position papers, supporting documentation and presentations for senior management
  • Support tax structuring for major infrastructure projects, working cross-functionally to implement transactions and ensure compliance with legislation and internal policies
  • Maintain tax technology systems including CCH Integrator and Workday fixed asset registers, while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferable skills and experiences, including:

  • Tertiary qualification with CA/CPA/TIA, tax postgraduate degree, or legal professional qualification, plus 5+ years' technical tax experience in a chartered firm or corporate environment
  • Strong technical understanding of corporate tax, particularly tax effect accounting, structuring, and compliance across complex group structures
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex tax matters into clear, non-technical language for senior stakeholders
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
  • Collaborative mindset with the confidence to work independently, bring innovative solutions, and contribute to a flexible team culture

If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.

With a career at Transurban, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits, including:

  • A range of flexible working and leave options, including the option to purchase an additional six weeks of leave each year
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), with no waiting period, with Superannuation paid during unpaid leave as well
  • Learning and development opportunities to support your career interests
  • Health and wellbeing support—access to Headspace and our EAP program, wellness facilities, and more
  • Share offers and insurance benefits
  • Social activities, community give-back programs and paid volunteer days

We offer a range of flexible working and leave options, so you can balance your work and life commitments and interests. Have a conversation with us about how this could work for you.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
