About Maincode

Maincode makes Matilda, an Australian-made AI stack we run end-to-end, from tin to token. We operate our own infrastructure here in Australia, train and maintain our own frontier models, and run multiple surfaces on top of them, including chat, coding, and APIs. Everything we ship is built on capability we control ourselves.

We are looking for someone energetic and outgoing to help us find the strongest engineers and researchers in Australia. The people we want to hire are rarely applying to anything. You should love meeting people, be genuinely curious about what they build, and have the judgment to tell who is worth our time.

The Role

You will find engineers and researchers who look good, wherever they actually are: GitHub, papers, meetups, communities, referrals. You will reach out, start real conversations, and meet people in person where you can. You will vet what they have built and who they are, and bring the ones worth talking to directly to our talent lead with a short, honest note on why.

You will be the first Maincode person most of our hires ever speak to. We value autonomy, speed, and high agency. The best way to understand this position is to review our work, understand what we are building, and think about how you would get the right people excited about it.

Qualifications & Expectations

  • Sourcing experience: Some experience sourcing or recruiting for technical roles. This can be an early-career position; what matters is that you were good at it and want to get better.

  • Outreach and presence: You are warm, enthusiastic, and extroverted. You are happy to put yourself out there, meet new people, and wear Maincode on your sleeve.

  • Strong signal: You read people well. You pick up on what someone actually cares about, adjust how you talk to them, and you communicate a direct, unvarnished read on the people you bring forward.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
