Job Description Summary
Service Stream is looking for a hands-on Systems Engineer to help maintain and continuously improve our infrastructure, cloud platforms and Microsoft 365 environment.
This is a role for someone who enjoys variety. One day you might be hardening servers, remediating vulnerabilities or managing certificates; the next you're troubleshooting cloud services, automating repetitive tasks, or improving the way we manage our environments.
You'll be joining a team that values ownership, collaboration and practical problem solving. We need someone who doesn't wait for problems to become incidents, but actively looks for ways to make systems more secure, reliable and efficient.
Please note: This is a full-time permanent role based at our Collins Street office, with genuine hybrid flexibility and is only open to Australian Citizens.

About the Role

As our Systems Engineer, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day operation, security and continuous improvement of Service Stream's core technology platforms.

Working across Windows and Linux infrastructure, AWS and Azure cloud environments, Microsoft 365 and enterprise networking, you'll help ensure our systems remain secure, patched, available and ready to support the business.

This is a true run-and-improve role. You'll focus on operational excellence, automation, security uplift and keeping the lights on, while continually finding smarter ways to do things.

You'll work closely with application teams, service providers and technology stakeholders across the business to maintain a reliable and modern technology environment.

What You'll Do

  • Keep our Windows Server and Linux environments secure, patched and performing at their best
  • Administer and optimise AWS and Azure services across compute, storage, networking and identity
  • Drive patching and vulnerability remediation activities to improve security posture and compliance
  • Manage the full SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle to ensure services remain available and protected
  • Administer Microsoft 365, including Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint and Intune
  • Support enterprise networking technologies, including firewalls, VPNs, DNS and load balancing
  • Manage software licence renewals and vendor relationships to minimise risk and unnecessary spend
  • Monitor infrastructure and cloud environments, respond to incidents and perform root cause analysis
  • Automate repetitive tasks using PowerShell, Python and infrastructure-as-code approaches
  • Support backup, recovery and resilience processes to ensure business continuity
  • Maintain clear documentation, standards and operational runbooks
  • Participate in after-hours support and maintenance activities when required

What You'll Bring

  • Must be an Australian Citizen
  • Around 3+ years' experience in systems administration or infrastructure engineering within a medium to large enterprise environment
  • Strong Windows Server administration experience, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP
  • Practical Linux administration skills and troubleshooting experience
  • Experience supporting AWS services such as EC2, IAM, VPC and S3
  • Microsoft 365 administration experience across user, device and licence management
  • Exposure to vulnerability management, security hardening and patching practices
  • Understanding of enterprise networking concepts and technologies
  • Experience working with vendors, support providers and software licensing
  • Automation and scripting capability using PowerShell and/or Python
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • AWS Solutions Architect Associate or AWS SysOps Administrator certification
  • Microsoft Azure certifications such as AZ-104 or AZ-500
  • Microsoft 365 certifications including MS-102 or MD-102
  • Cisco CCNA or equivalent networking certification
  • Security certifications such as Security+ or SC-200
  • ITIL Foundation or experience working within structured change and incident management frameworks

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
