Own Microsoft's strategic relationship with the Australian Taxation Office and lead a multi-year account strategy spanning AI, Azure, Microsoft 365, security, data, and modernization. Build executive relationships, lead complex competitive pursuits, coordinate large virtual teams, manage partners and government procurement requirements, and convert technology adoption into measurable business and citizen outcomes.

Overview

Few agencies affect every Australian like the Australian Taxation Office. The ATO has committed publicly to using AI at scale across its technology and data estate. It wants to simplify the tax experience, close the payment gap, strengthen the system against fraud and build a workforce ready for the future. Microsoft is at the centre of that work. We're hiring a Strategic Account Executive to own the relationship and turn the momentum into a lasting, multi-year platform partnership.

You'll lead one of Microsoft's most strategically significant Federal civilian territory. It reaches more than a dozen agencies that deliver critical services, policy, regulation and revenue for the nation. The ATO is a lighthouse for applied AI in government, so what you build here could set the pattern for the wider Commonwealth.

Responsibilities
  • Own the multi-year account strategy. Build and run a living, multi-year plan across enterprise AI, Microsoft 365 Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Security, Data and Azure modernisation. The plan should deliver high-volume growth and open new opportunities for Microsoft and our partners.
  • Become a trusted advisor at the top. Build and sustain relationships with SES leaders and CIO/CISO stakeholders. Shape long-term direction and connect Microsoft's work to public outcomes: revenue integrity, productivity and community trust.
  • Lead complex, competitive pursuits. Lead high-stakes pursuits such as the enterprise AI platform, AI-driven security operations, and modernising core legacy systems. You'll do this in a competitive multi-cloud market.
  • Lead a large virtual team. Lead a broad team of specialists, solution engineers, customer success, industry advisors, consulting services and commercial leads, plus executive sponsors. Make sure the whole team moves toward one customer agenda.
  • Shape the partner ecosystem. Work with systems integrators, ISVs and resellers to speed up delivery and adoption, and handle government procurement, sovereignty and probity requirements.
  • Turn adoption into growth. Turn AI momentum into measurable customer value and improved citizen outcomes. Spot risks early, deal with root causes and keep customer satisfaction high.

Qualifications

This is a whole-of-portfolio leadership role, not traditional account management. It suits someone who wants to lead and contribute to Microsoft's AI-in-government story in Australia, at a moment that will shape how a nation-scale agency serves its citizens.

  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years' experience in industry and/or driving digital transformation, or a Master's and 9+ years, or 13+ years' experience, or equivalent.
  • 6+ years advising or collaborating with mid-to-senior executives.
  • 8+ years closing large, complex agreements.
  • Ability to obtain and hold an Australian Government security clearance

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's and 13+ years' experience, or a Master's and 11+ years, in industry and/or digital transformation.
  • Experience selling to Australian Federal Government, with an understanding of whole-of-government cloud policy, sourcing arrangements and security frameworks (PSPF/ISM, Essential Eight, IRAP).
  • A record of turning AI and cloud programs into measurable business outcomes.

This position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
