SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

The State Sales Manager (Marine & Protective Coatings) is responsible for managing daily sales activities, ensuring administrative tasks are completed on time and to a high standard while offering leadership and guidance to the Victoria Sales Team.
The role is accountable for promoting mainly Marine & Protective Coatings products in Victoria by applying Jotun’s sales tools and techniques to promote Jotun’s products, services, and solutions, identify new business development opportunities and maintain customer relationships in order to achieve sales targets, gross margin, DSO and targeted market shares all while controlling manageable costs.
The role is based at our Melbourne office and reporting directly to the National Sales Manager (Marine & Protective Coatings).

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and seek new business opportunities for the local market by targeting new customers to increase our market share and profitability.

  • Introduce, promote, and sell a range of segment(s) products in assigned geographical territories through regular customer visits to maintain good relationships and obtain market information.

  • Follow-up on projects within allocated geographical territories by coordinating and monitoring closely with project personnel to ensure Jotun products are used to achieve the sales budget.

  • Troubleshoot, resolve and escalate specific customer problems

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure timely delivery, good customer service, and achieve company goals.

  • Monitor collections to ensure customer payment is received within an agreed term to achieve budgeted days outstanding.

  • Execute assigned sales activities related to achieving currently given targets in terms of volumes and gross margins through customers by providing timely direct services to the customers to ensure that the company achieves overall profitability.

  • Responsible for the market mapping and expansion in the territory by keeping current with supply and demand, changing trends, economic indicators, and competitors to increase Jotun's market share.

  • Organize, develop, motivate, and lead sales teams by setting clear targets and framework, coaching, supporting, following up, and monitoring each team member in line with The Penguin Spirit to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the whole team.

Requirements: 

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in sales
  • Holding a relevant tertiary qualification is a bonus
  • Good knowledge of industry sales / tender / specification processes
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally as required
  • Proven leadership of high performing teams
  • Knowledge of Marine & Protective coatings is advantageous
  • Must hold full working rights in Australia (Australian citizen or Permanent Resident) at the time of application
