Retail Technology is responsible for the world-leading technology across every aspect of CommBank and Bankwest Retail. From innovative product platforms built on AWS using GenAI, to essential tools within our business. We use technology to help our Engineers do their best work to support our customer facing teams to deliver class leading products, experiences, and service.
The CBA technology unit delivers the best digital banking services to Commonwealth Bank customers and to do so is responsible for digital delivery, group data and analytics, technology and technology infrastructure, cyber, fraud, physical security and business resilience for all divisions across CBA. It is also dedicated to delivering the best workplace technology experience for our over 53,000 people across CBA and focused on providing the latest tools, technology, and resources to enhance the way we work together and empower our people to achieve more for our customers.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll be doing hands-on coding and be responsible for shaping the technical evolution of this system by contributing to technical strategy, end-to-end design, implementation, and delivery. You'll be responsible for developing APIs, microservices, backend components, data access layers, and driving innovative process improvements that add significant business value.

Designing innovative solutions to solve complicated problems as part of a cross-functional squad

While not having any direct reports, you will be guiding and mentoring the engineers across your Crew to develop elegant, well tested, and maintainable code

Ensuring our technical approach is sound, fit for purpose, and well architected

Supporting deployments across our Azure and AWS (Amazon Web Services) environments through our continuous delivery pipelines

Promoting a culture of continuous learning, experimentation and innovation while contributing to the definition & governance of our standards and best practices

Acting as the technical subject matter expert for all engineers, sharing knowledge and learning through your chapter, workshops, and guilds

Contributing to growing the next generation of talent through our graduate and intern academy
Tech skills
We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We do not expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these, or a willing to learn these skillsets (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team!

Strong hands-on experience with the technologies like C#, ASP.NET, .NET Core, React.js/Next.js

Sound knowledge of large-scale distributed systems, Microservices, and Rest API Integration

Cloud - AWS (preferred) or Azure

CI/CD pipeline - GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Octopus

Databases - NoSQL, Mongo DB, Aurora DB

Any experience with the following would be great – DevSecOps, integration using Kafka, Banking domain
