Our mobile team is the largest mobile team in the country. The team responsible for building Australia’s number one banking app, used by over 5 million people every day. As a Staff Engineer, you’ll be responsible for leading, promoting continuous improvement, developing technical roadmaps, and improving the quality of technical solutions by implementing industry best practises. You'll also work closely with other technical leaders and product owners to document new changes and drive various initiatives. It will be key that you are able to communicate well with the rest of the squad members, provide technical guidance and mentoring to the engineers in the team, while being exposed to some interesting challenges. Also, you’ll be involved in all aspects of the delivery from solution design and development to production rollout.

  • Possesses full-cycle engineering experience: ideation, technical design, build, testing (unit, integration, system), release, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Have the ability to work independently and drive a culture where quality, excellence and openness are championed.

  • Are constantly thinking outside the box and breaking boundaries to solve complex technical problems.
  • Can utilise strong understanding of core business and technical strategies to deliver best business outcomes through technical implementation.
  • Can mentor junior engineers and contribute both individually and as a team player.
  • Understands how to drive to an outcome – how to get stuff shipped, tested, and well considered.
  • Are enthusiastic about leading and championing strategic practice development.
  • Works well in teams and have strong collaboration skills in driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Are open-minded to DevOps practices and demonstrate strong ownership mindset for product squads.
  • Don't limit yourself to just the native space - you're curious about the broader technology ecosystem.
  • Embrace new technologies with enthusiasm to learn and use new tools to achieve bigger outcomes beyond mobile.

Tech Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:

  • iOS: Strong hands-on experience with Swift, SwiftUI, and familiarity with Objective C
  • OR ANDROID: Strong hands-on experience with Android, Kotlin, Coroutines and familiarity with Java, Jetpack Compose, MAD (Modern Android Development), ANR, Accessibility, memory management, performance optimisation and so on.
  • Advanced experience in software design and architecture principles in mobile
  • Developing testable and observable systems – TDD, Unit test, UI test and snapshot test
  • Monitoring app health, crashes, and logs - AppD, AppCenter or AppDynamic, Splunk 
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipeline - Teamcity, GitHub, GitHub Actions
  • Knowledge of public cloud along with various back-end APIs and systems
  • Any experience with the following would be great - AI/ML, Agentic AI, Banking domain
