As a Staff Software Engineer specialising in iOS, you'll combine deep hands-on engineering expertise with technical leadership. You'll help shape the mobile capabilities that connect our modern identity platforms with digital channels across CommBank, solving complex engineering challenges and building reusable solutions that enable teams to deliver secure, reliable customer experiences.

You'll influence technical direction beyond your immediate team, raising engineering standards and helping us build scalable mobile capabilities for the future.

See yourself in our team

The team designs and delivers how our identity platform integrates with channels across the Group, creating reusable UX patterns, UI components, SDKs and capabilities that make integration with our modern identity platforms simpler and more consistent.

In this role, you'll:

  • Own complex engineering outcomes from technical design and development through testing, release and production.
  • Champion automated testing, observability, performance, accessibility, reliability and secure coding practices.
  • Lead technical design and code reviews, balancing long-term engineering quality with pragmatic delivery.
  • Coach and mentor engineers, raising technical capability and engineering standards across the broader crew.
  • Influence across engineering, product and architecture teams to align technical approaches and solve complex cross-team challenges.

We’re interested in hearing from people who:

You'll bring deep iOS engineering expertise and a track record of providing technical leadership in complex engineering environments. You're equally comfortable working hands-on with code, shaping architecture and influencing technical decisions across teams. You can work through ambiguity, make sound engineering trade-offs and help others solve difficult technical problems.

Experience across many of the following will set you up for success:

  • Deep expertise in Swift and modern iOS engineering, including Swift Concurrency, SwiftUI and Xcode.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering secure, scalable iOS applications, SDKs and reusable frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of mobile architecture, design patterns, modularisation and software engineering principles.
  • Experience acting as an iOS technical SME and evolving large or complex existing codebases.
  • Experience integrating mobile applications with backend services using RESTful APIs and GraphQL.
  • Strong understanding of mobile security, performance, reliability, observability and accessibility.
  • Strong experience with automated testing, CI/CD, Git and modern software delivery practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical design and code reviews, establish engineering standards and guide other iOS engineers.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
