The AI & Analytics Data Products team builds high-quality data assets that empower teams across SEEK Group to gain valuable insights and enhance experiences for both individuals and organisations.
This position will report to the Engineering Manager and be part of a team made up of senior and mid-level data engineers. This role collaborates closely with internal peers, including staff, senior, and mid-level data engineers; analytics engineers; data solution designers; and data tracking specialists.
About the role
The Staff Data Engineer, is a senior technical leader within the AI & Analytics Data Products team, responsible for building high-quality data assets that empower teams across SEEK Group to deliver insights and enhance experiences for people and organisations.
As an in-team technical specialist, you design and build fit-for-purpose solutions while strengthening the team’s technical systems and platforms. You lead and elevate technical practices that enable effective software delivery, demonstrating deep expertise in the team’s codebase, systems, and tools.
You also drive alignment between your team’s technical roadmap and SEEK’s broader technology strategy.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and operate scalable, high‑performing data platforms and services aligned with SEEK’s technology strategy.
- Ensure systems are well‑architected, secure, and meet SEEK’s technical and platform health metrics.
- Lead and embed strong engineering and DevOps practices to continuously improve delivery and reliability.
- Act as the technical escalation point, owning production issues through to resolution.
- Champion clean, well‑tested, secure code and uplift technical capability within the team.
- Collaborate effectively with Architecture, Security, and other technical stakeholders to align solutions.
- Drive clear communication and alignment between technical work, team priorities, and customer outcomes.
Skills and experience
- Deep expertise in the Spark framework (Batch and Structured Streaming).
- Proven experience building and operating large‑scale, cloud‑based data platforms and warehouses.
- Strong proficiency with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Advanced software engineering, coding, scripting, and SQL/database skills.
- Skilled in logical and physical data modelling.
- Hands‑on experience with DevOps practices — deployments, infrastructure, monitoring, and operations.
- Demonstrated leadership in tech‑leading, mentoring, and developing engineers to enhance delivery performance.
