At eShepherd™, we’re changing the way livestock farming is managed around the world through virtual fencing technology that gives farmers greater flexibility, improved productivity, and a new way to manage their land and animals.

Built on more than 85 years of innovation from Gallagher, eShepherd™ combines deep agricultural heritage with the ambition and pace of a growing global technology business. Our team is developing an IoT and AI-driven platform designed to solve real-world challenges for farmers, and we’re looking for a Test Engineer to help ensure everything we build is reliable, scalable, and ready to perform.

About the Role

As our Software Test Engineer, you’ll play an important role in ensuring the quality and reliability of the eShepherd platform.

You’ll design, execute and maintain test plans across backend services, APIs, frontend interfaces, and device-related features. Working closely with Software Engineers, Product, UX/UI, Data and DevOps specialists, you’ll help validate new functionality, identify issues early and support the continuous delivery of high-quality releases.

This is a practical role combining manual testing, test automation, and continuous improvement. You’ll have the freedom to investigate complex problems, improve testing processes, and help build quality into every stage of the development lifecycle.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Designing and executing test plans across web, API and device-based features

  • Performing functional, regression, integration and end-to-end testing

  • Developing and maintaining automated test scripts and supporting CI/CD testing practices

  • Identifying, documenting and validating defects to support high-quality releases

  • Collaborating with Product, Engineering and DevOps teams to improve quality across the platform

  • Using monitoring and observability tools to investigate system behaviour and troubleshoot issues

  • Contributing to continuous improvement of testing tools, processes and automation

Who You Are

You’re an analytical and curious Test Engineer who enjoys getting into the detail, asking the right questions and uncovering issues before they reach customers.

You’re comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities can change, information may not always be complete, and taking initiative is valued. You work well independently but enjoy collaborating with others to solve complex problems and deliver better outcomes.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience in software testing, including designing and executing test cases

  • Experience with functional, integration and end-to-end testing methodologies

  • Exposure to test automation tools such as Cypress, JUnit or similar

  • Programming or scripting experience in JavaScript, Java, Python or comparable languages

  • Experience working with APIs and CI/CD environments

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams

  • A proactive mindset with strong attention to detail and ownership

Experience with some of the following would be an advantage:

  • AWS or cloud-native environments

  • Cypress, JavaScript, Java or Python

  • Docker, Kubernetes or microservices

  • IoT, connected devices or AgTech products

Why Join eShepherd™?

This is an opportunity to work on innovative technology that is helping shape the future of livestock farming.

You’ll join a collaborative team working across software, hardware, data, product and agriculture, with the opportunity to influence how quality is built into a growing global platform. You’ll enjoy the energy and ownership of a scaling technology business, supported by Gallagher’s experience, resources and global reach.

If you enjoy solving complex problems, improving how software is tested and building technology that makes a practical difference, we’d love to hear from you.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and the role may be filled before the closing date.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
