We're REA

With bold and ambitious goals, REA Group  is changing the way the world experiences property. No matter where you're at on your property journey, we're here to help with every step - whether that's finding or financing your next home.
Our people are the key to our success. At the heart of everything we do, is a thriving culture centred around high performance and care. We are purpose driven and collaborative, which drives innovation and our ability to make a real impact. As such, we’re proud to have been named in Australia’s “Top 5” Best Workplaces two years in a row, as well as being recognised as a Best Workplace for Women.

Where the team fits in

As a Software Engineer in Voyager, you will design, build, operate and continuously improve internal platforms, tools and services that help REA teams move faster, stay secure and work reliably at scale. This role sits in Launchpad’s Agentic Acceleration pillar and is focused on building and operating AI platform capabilities, while co-developing shared agentic capabilities with business units based on demand and priority use cases. In this role, you will work closely with product, design, and engineering peers to build reusable platform capabilities that are reliable, secure, scalable, and easy for other teams to adopt.

You will form part of a cross-functional squad and contribute to the success of the team’s mission through hands-on delivery, operational ownership, and continuous improvement. You will also help shape technical design, support production systems, and contribute to strong engineering practices across the team. We are particularly interested in engineers who are curious about agentic capabilities, including areas such as agentic orchestration, and who are excited to explore how AI can be applied practically, safely, and effectively in day-to-day engineering work.

What the role is all about

  • Design, develop, test, and document high-quality software in line with REA engineering standards.
  • Build and evolve platform capabilities, services, APIs, workflows, and supporting tools that enable product teams and internal users.
  • Maintain and enhance existing systems, including bug fixes, feature development, and operational improvements.
  • Provide production support, including incident response, troubleshooting, and participation in on-call or support rotations where required.
  • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to shape Voyager technical direction and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Contribute to delivery planning and technical design by evaluating options, trade-offs, effort, and quality considerations.
  • Proactively contribute to the continuous improvement of products, technology, team processes, and ways of working.
  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies, including AI and agentic engineering patterns, to inform platform evolution and technical decision-making.
  • Contribute to the development and adoption of agentic capabilities, such as orchestration patterns, reusable workflows, and platform components that support AI-enabled experiences.
  • Use AI-assisted tools thoughtfully as part of your workflow to improve productivity, quality, learning, and delivery outcomes.
  • Support teammates through collaboration, code reviews, technical reviews, and day-to-day knowledge sharing.

Who we’re looking for

  • Strong skills in modern software development practices such as test-driven development, continuous delivery, and collaborative engineering.
  • Experience coding in Python, Terraform and Bash and ideally TypeScript and React.
  • Experience designing and delivering software that is maintainable, observable, and built for scale and performance.
  • Practical knowledge of software design patterns, web and application architectures, and cloud-based systems.
  • Experience working with APIs and distributed or event-driven systems.
  • Some experience in agentic capabilities and an eagerness to learn and contribute in areas such as agentic orchestration and AI platform patterns.
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools or workflows to support engineering productivity, delivery, or problem-solving.
  • A solutions-focused mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in fast-paced, agile environments.
  • Curiosity, ownership, and a willingness to continuously learn and improve both the technology and the team around you.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
