We are growing our SEO team and are wondering if you would like to join us. We are ideally looking for someone in Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane for around 3 days per week. We seek to support people who are primary carers, and if you would like to do 3 days work across 5, you can. Or you can do 3 full days, working 2 from home and one from your local Luminary office. If you love SEO and are curious about the new frontier of Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO), this role will put you at the centre of where search is heading. You’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact on major organisations’ visibility strategies whilst deepening your expertise in how AI-powered search is reshaping discovery and engagement.
About the role
As part of Luminary’s strategy team, you’ll collaborate with specialists in content, strategy, analytics, UX, design, and development to deliver high-quality SEO and GEO outcomes for a diverse range of clients. Supported by the SEO Principal and Producers, you’ll be trusted to manage retainers and project-based SEO and GEO work, combining technical depth with strategic thinking and the ability to communicate insights clearly and persuasively. You’ll play an active role in helping clients understand the evolution of search, translating complex ideas into simple language that builds confidence and drives action. The role focuses on the SEO functions you are used to, as well as emerging GEO activities, such as:
SEO
- Conduct keyword research and analyse search behaviour and opportunities
- Define and implement on-page optimisation strategies
- Lead audits, technical recommendations, and data-driven reporting
- Monitor site performance and identify opportunities for improvement
- Stay up to date with evolving best practices and algorithmic trends
GEO
- Advise clients on the shift toward AI-powered search and summarisation engines
- Produce visibility benchmark reports and performance analyses
- Optimise content for both traditional and generative search environments
- Support AI-friendly copywriting and content-design practices
- Implement or guide schema and technical improvements that enhance machine readability and visibility in AI systems
- Contribute to internal GEO knowledge-sharing and capability building
Skills and experience
- 5+ years’ experience in SEO strategy and delivery
- Experience in an agency environment with the ability to manage multiple clients and priorities
- Demonstrated understanding of generative engine optimisation and AI-driven search
- Proven ability to lead client presentations and discussions, supported by strong written skills
- Experience with site migrations, redesigns, and large-scale content optimisation
- Strong analytical and reporting skills using GA4, Search Console, and SEO suites such as SEMrush, Ahrefs, or Screaming Frog
- Curious, analytical mindset with the ability to connect data, content, and strategy
- Collaborative approach, comfortable working across teams to deliver the best client outcome, not just the “SEO” outcome
