Job Description
As a Radio Configuration Specialist, you will be responsible to provide high quality technical and operational support for P25 subscriber radio configuration and documentation. This will include creating changes to the radio configuration, via individual Customer Programming Software (CPS), Radio Management (RM) server or
Radio Central(RC).
Participating in customer meetings to derive operational requirements will be a critical success factor to translate individual technical functional requirements that can then be implemented to adjust how a P25 subscriber radio is configured. Verification testing to prove such configuration change will also be required.
This may require writing or updating an appropriate test verification plan. Additional technologies to expand this role can also include TETRA and DMR leveraging similar methodologies.
You will be responsible for:
● Drive customer technical requirements with a national team of radio configuration specialists that
supports internal and external customers
● Codeplug development and management including updating and maintaining associated
documentation
● Perform review and create a customer summary of new subscriber software and firmware releases by reviewing engineering release notes and collating an impact summary to present to customer for
applicable sign off acceptance
● Perform new firmware version compatibility regression testing to ensure current customer
operational codeplug integrity highlighting any deltas that would require a customer approved change
● Provide technical support for customers, internal and external stakeholders to deliver voice radio and communication solutions.
● Contribute in meetings and interactions with stakeholders and customers to represent subscriber
impact of any proposed configuration changes.
● Drive and manage a standardised process of codeplug development and regression testing, ensuring quality of these items is maintained, recorded and reported
● Primary contact point for subscriber radio configuration related customer issue management and
provide technical input or configuration updates for resolution
● Managing deployment of codeplug updates after liaising with customer and Network Operations
Centre for Change Request approval
● Maintain applicable software tool / server versions to ensure updated to support latest available
released production versions, whilst continuing to support in field customer operational versions.
● Follow standard Operational and Help Desk operating procedures; accurately log and update all Help Desk contacts using incident/call tracking software
● Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager, Engineering Manager, Service Delivery Manager and other senior management
Basic Requirements
Education and Qualifications
Essential:
● Tertiary Qualifications in Electronics / Computer Systems Engineering or similar (Extensive industry
experience will be considered as an alternative)
Highly Desirable:
● Telecommunications, Land Mobile Radio (LMR) experience
Essential:
● Interfacing with customers, staff, management and vendors
● Experience with Motorola ASTRO P25 voice radio systems or other digital Land Mobile Radio systems.
● Experience with public safety-grade radio systems configuration, implementation and operation.
● Software/firmware regression testing experience and best practices
● Codeplug development/management experience
● Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) experience
Highly Desirable:
● In-depth technical experience with Motorola Astro 25 / Dimetra / DMR Digital radio systems
● Experience in a communications operations or network operations environment
