Our Why

Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow.

About the Role (your why)

The Senior Solution Advisor plays a pivotal leadership role in the presales and project delivery of complex, multi-platform solutions within Datacom’s Managed Operations line of business. You will shape the architectural vision and frameworks that enable Datacom and its customers to realise business outcomes through transformative IT initiatives.

Working across a wide range of customers — from 150 to 60,000 seats — including Health, Transport, Finance, Infrastructure and Government sectors, you will guide teams in defining and delivering cost-effective, scalable and secure architectural solutions. The role combines high-level design planning, mentoring solution architects, and technical leadership in support of Datacom’s growth and innovation strategy.

What you'll do

As a Senior Solution Advisor, you will be focused on:

  • Providing strategic and technical leadership in complex IT solutions across infrastructure, networking, and security domains.
  • Reviewing new and existing Information Services projects for compliance to architectural standards by developing, documenting, and communicating strategies and standard builds.
  • Leading presales solutioning activities, preparing  proposals for complex managed services engagements.
  • Supporting bid responses and presentations for large multi-service line proposals (RFI/RFT/RFQ/RFP).
  • Investigating and incorporating emerging technologies to provide cost-effective, flexible, and innovative solutions.
  • Mentoring, developing, and supervising Solution Architects and providing technical consultation in multi-platform environments.
  • Ensuring designs are costed, approved, supported, and maintainable, aligning with Datacom frameworks and standards.
  • Leading architecture efforts on major projects and programmes to specify optimum designs for business applications.
  • Providing technical and commercial inputs into service renewals and contract transitions.
  • Promoting a health and safety culture that values people and sustainability in line with Datacom policy.

What you'll bring

Required experience:
• Broad IT experience and minimum 7+ years in systems development and design.
• Demonstrated ability to create high-quality architecture documentation (SORs, SOWs, HLDs, proposals) for managed service and project engagements.
• Strong commercial and pricing acumen to support competitive yet profitable service delivery.
• Expert-level technical understanding in Infrastructure, Networking, Security and multi-platform IT environments.
• Advanced knowledge of common vendor infrastructure and solution offerings.
• Extensive experience with hybrid and public cloud environments, especially Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
• Strong understanding of project pricing, MSP engagements, and fixed-price vs time-and-materials models.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to present and engage with customers and stakeholders.
• Strategic planning, research and analytical abilities with a solution-driven mindset.

Nice to have:
• Experience across multiple networking vendors and emerging technologies in communications.
• Good understanding of AI and automation technologies and desire to expand these skillsets.
• Familiarity with industry security frameworks and compliance standards.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or equivalent.
• Industry certifications across Microsoft, VMware, or Infrastructure domain.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
