Do you aspire to help build something better? Would you like to work for a company that employs the best talent to develop and deliver world class capabilities and systems to protect Australia and its national interests? Would you like to work on cutting edge projects? Then we would like to talk to you!
As an equal opportunity employer that promotes an inclusive and safe workplace environment while also being one of the country's leading and preferred defence partners, Boeing Defence Australia is seeking a DevSecOps Engineer to support the delivery and sustainment of the Wakulda program's on premise and self-hosted SCVMM HA Datacentre fabric and multipipeline CI/CD and lab development and deployment environment.
This role is located in Brisbane.
Some of the key responsibilities will include:
Responsibilities:
  • DevSecOps Governance & Everything-as-Code (EAC): Drive the transition toward a best-practice "Everything-as-Code" model by integrating Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), automated security controls, and governance frameworks into the full delivery lifecycle.
  • Full-Stack Infrastructure Orchestration: Design, implement, and scale end-to-end automated workflows for lifecycle management spanning from bare-metal/hypervisor orchestration to the application layer utilizing SCVMM and Ansible across mixed Windows and Linux environments.
  • CI/CD Ecosystem Engineering: Development, migration, and maintenance of complex, multi-stage CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket/Jenkins and GitLab CI/CD), enforcing "build once, promote anywhere" methodologies and robust multi-environment promotion strategies.
  • Stateful Platform Engineering: Develop automated deployment, scaling, and maintenance patterns for high-availability, stateful on-premises platforms, including GitLab (Omnibus), Artifactory, SonarQube, and Ansible Automation Platform, ensuring rigorous storage management and disaster recovery.
  • Observability & Telemetry: Develop advanced telemetry pipelines and observability stacks (e.g., Grafana, Splunk) to move beyond basic heartbeat monitoring toward true service-level observability (SLIs/SLOs) that provides actionable intelligence for both Operations and Security.
  • Software Development Process: Establish and enforce "production-grade" standards for the automation and CI/CD ecosystem; ensure that complex, cross-platform workflows (Ansible, Python, PowerShell, Bash) are treated with software engineering rigor, including version control, modularity, and testing.

Technical Competencies:
  • DevSecOps & Infrastructure as Code: Demonstrable experience in implementing DevSecOps principles and Infrastructure-as-Code within complex, on-premises, self-hosted, and highly virtualized environments.
  • Automation & Orchestration: Advanced proficiency with Ansible and SCVMM, with a proven ability to build and maintain scalable, secure, automated workflows for hybrid Windows/Linux environments.
  • Software-Centric CI/CD & Tooling: Deep experience managing the full software build chain, including version control (GitLab, Bitbucket), build automation (Jenkins/Gitlab-CI), Build Tools (Maven), and artifact management (JFrog), with a focus on managing the stateful components of these toolchains.
  • Software Development & Polyglot Scripting: A strong background in software application development logic; highly proficient in IaC scripting environments including Ansible, Jinja, Python, PowerShell, and Bash, with a disciplined focus on software engineering best practices.
  • Observability & SIEM: Skilled in telemetry collection, metric aggregation, and log analysis using tools like Grafana and Splunk to drive proactive incident response and security monitoring.
  • Virtualization & Infrastructure Depth: Deep foundational knowledge of the full stack, from Hyper-V Failover Clusters and hardware/OS management to the orchestration required for large-scale enterprise virtualization.
  • Security Integration: Ability to embed security governance, vulnerability scanning (SonarQube), and compliance directly into the automation and deployment lifecycle (Shift-Left security).

Qualifications:
Advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and 6 or more years' related work experience in CI/CD systems administration, DevOps, software or platform engineering, with a demonstrated track record of engineering automated, production-grade environments.
Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security requirements.
Successful candidates must be willing to undergo the standard government vetting process (full life background check). BDA will sponsor and support this clearance.
Benefits
Competitive Salary & Bonuses: Enjoy a competitive salary along with yearly bonuses.
Flexible Work Schedule: Benefit from a hybrid work model, with options for an RDO and WHF 2 days a week.
Paid Leave Options: Access various paid leave entitlements to support your personal and family needs.

Financial Benefits: Explore options for novated leasing and salary sacrifice for superannuation.
Career Development: Receive both informal and formal tailored mentorship to accelerate your career growth and design promotional pathways.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
