What You’ll Do

Product & Technology - Software Engineering & IT develops and maintains Telstra's software and IT systems, working on some really cutting-edge technologies.

As the Senior Software Engineer, you will use your advanced software engineering knowledge to deliver complex application capabilities and improve the health of Telstra's many digital assets. You will translate customer and business needs into maintainable technical solutions, contributes to architectural decisions, champion quality and security, and supports software across the full development lifecycle. Working in a team that works directly on the Telstra Self Service App and many other B2B customer applications, you will identify areas of improvement while being forward thinking demonstrating your ability to identify improvement areas and facilitate solutions.

Responsibilities include:

• Design, build and optimise native Android applications using Kotlin and modern Android frameworks, with a focus on scalable, reusable and maintainable solutions.

• Deliver high-quality, secure and accessible software through automated testing, code reviews, CI/CD practices and engineering best practices.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance, reliability and production issues using debugging, profiling, logging and observability tools.

• Own features end-to-end, from technical design and development through to release, production support and continuous improvement.

• Partner with Product, Design, Architecture and Engineering teams to deliver customer-focused outcomes and influence technical direction.

• Provide technical leadership through mentoring, stakeholder engagement, knowledge sharing and driving engineering excellence across the team.

About You

You have strong Android development technology experience combined with excellent stakeholder management, engagement and presentation skills. You thrive in a role that is autonomous yet collaborative while working in an Agile team embedded in CI/CD best practice. You understand customer needs and use this knowledge to advise development teams and product Managers on best engineering solutions in line with Tech capabilities and ability to manage multiple sprint priorities as required.

Essential Skills ant Technologies:

• Advanced Android development using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose and modern Android frameworks, with strong expertise in scalable architecture and reusable components.

• Secure, accessible and quality-focused delivery supported by automated testing, CI/CD, code reviews and modern engineering practices.

• Strong problem-solving capability with expertise in debugging, performance optimisation, production diagnostics and high-availability mobile systems.

• Experience building and integrating APIs, microservices, observability and analytics solutions to deliver reliable mobile experiences.

• Proven use of AI-assisted engineering tools, including GitHub Copilot, to accelerate development while maintaining security, quality and engineering governance.

• Technical leadership, stakeholder influence and mentoring skills, with the ability to drive collaboration, continuous improvement and sound engineering decisions.

Nice to have:

• Relevant Android, Google, cloud, security, accessibility, AI or agile certifications.

• IOS Development experience and desire to grow in this space

• Experience with Android architecture evolution, modularisation, design systems, accessibility and application performance at scale.

• Experience working in large-scale digital product environments with multiple delivery teams and shared platforms.

• Basic understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), its common use cases and the evolving AI market landscape.

• Ability to create and configure AI agents and reusable skills for defined engineering or business use cases.
