What is the focus of the role?

As a Senior SOC Analyst, you help protect Telstra’s employees and customers by detecting, responding to, and preventing cyber security threats. Using your strong cyber security expertise, you lead incident response, threat analysis, and proactive threat hunting within the Security Operations Centre. Working closely with a specialist team and the wider business, you act as a trusted advisor, improve security standards, and mentor junior analysts to ensure threats are identified and resolved quickly and effectively.

About You

You are an experienced cyber security professional who can quickly identify and resolve security threats. You work well with others, are trusted for your expertise, stay up to date with new technologies, and enjoy mentoring team members. You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and can influence decisions around security risk and business outcomes. You adapt to new environments quickly and can bring relevant knowledge from previous engagements to the team. 

Candidates must be Australian citizens to be considered for this role. You will be required to hold and maintain an NV1 AGSVA security clearance and must be willing to obtain NV2 clearance.

This position is based out of Telstra’s Security Operations Centre team (SOC), and requires candidates to be located in Melbourne, Canberra or Sydney.

What You'll Do

As a Senior SOC Analyst, you will be an integral part of a specialist security team, leveraging your deep expertise and experience in multiple technologies and areas of the security domain. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the response to complex security incidents and improving response processes
  • Analysing threats, identifying security gaps, and recommending improvements
  • Producing and sharing clear, actionable threat intelligence
  • Proactively hunting for emerging and advanced threats
  • Working with the business and vendors to implement security standards and solutions
  • Assessing security controls, managing risk, and supporting post-incident reviews
  • Contributing to security policies, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Providing expert advice on security frameworks and certifications
  • Supporting new security capabilities and customer onboarding
  • Staying current with new technologies while coaching and mentoring junior team members
