Our Why

Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow.

About the Role (your why)

As a Senior Developer – Integration within our Software Development team, you’ll take a leading role in designing, developing, and maintaining integration-focused applications and platforms. This role combines hands-on coding with technical leadership and collaboration across teams to deliver secure, well-structured, and maintainable code aligned with Datacom’s quality standards. You’ll engage with business stakeholders to understand requirements, provide technical guidance, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Our offices are based across Australia and New Zealand, and the team works in a hybrid model - one to two days in the office and the rest from home. We like to bring people together in person when we can, but we also value the flexibility of remote working and the importance of work/life balance.

What you’ll do

At the moment, as Senior Developer – ServiceNow you will be focused on:

  • Overseeing analysis, design, programming, debugging, and modification of enterprise or end-user applications.
  • Participating actively in code reviews and ensuring all development meets high quality and performance standards.
  • Resolving gaps and ambiguities in functional and technical designs and addressing defects within your development domain.
  • Working with project leads and business owners to provide thought leadership on technologies and process improvements.
  • Collaborating across domain teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions aligned with established frameworks and patterns.
  • Developing re-usable code wherever possible to support platform efficiency.
  • Preparing and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation and system implementation plans.
  • Installing, testing, and maintaining new or modified systems and software.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring team members, acting as an informal team lead when required.
  • Assuring adherence to project budgets, schedules, and performance requirements.
  • Promoting a principle-driven health and safety culture that protects employees and aligns with Datacom policies.

Datacom is a continuously evolving organisation — our projects, technologies, and customer needs grow with us, and this flexibility means your role will too.

What you’ll bring

Required experience:
• 7+ years in ServiceNow development with at least 3 years in a large IT environment.

• Strong knowledge of ServiceNow Modules including ITOM and ITSM.
• Strong knowledge of established development frameworks, platform capabilities, and design patterns.
• Advanced programming skills in languages
• Advanced knowledge of major relational databases
• Proficiency with modern DevOps tools and automation practices.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to act as an informal team leader and mentor other developers.
• Strong customer relationship and stakeholder management abilities.
• Self-management skills for estimating, planning, and delivering development tasks efficiently.

Nice to have:
• Familiarity with enterprise backup, antivirus, and system monitoring tools.
• Working knowledge of competing product offerings and modern integration technologies (e.g. APIs, middleware).
• Technical leadership experience within collaborative development environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, IT, Science, Engineering, Economics or a related discipline.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
