Because when they succeed they make a difference, and when millions of small businesses are making a difference, the world is a more beautiful place.
About the role:
You’ll help define the standard for engineering excellence at Xero, lead initiatives to grow the technical capabilities of the Engineering community, and evolve the technical architecture of our software aligned to Xero’s Strategic direction and Product Strategy.
As a member of the technology senior leadership team, you will use your engineering expertise, understanding of Xero’s business, and the Engineering organisation to drive improvement of the engineering system.
You will build situational awareness through relationships fostered across the organisation with diverse groups, particularly the wider Engineering & Architecture community, Platform, Design, Customer Experience, Security and Agile at all levels.
This knowledge will be used to ensure your Engineering group is focused on the highest impact opportunities to improve the system of work, and is approaching them in pragmatic, safe and incrementally deliverable ways. You will act as a coach and mentor for the Principal Engineer and Lead Engineer cohorts. You will work to identify future Principal Engineers, and will take part in interviews of senior engineering talent (IC and M track). You will act as an advisor to the engineering leaders of Xero in areas such as technical concerns, architecture and engineering process.
You will role model sustainable engineering excellence, driving engineering-wide processes, visibly taking part in the engineering community and setting the bar for quality and continually improving practices. You will share your knowledge widely internally and externally via blog posts, talks and written documentation.
