Department Overview
Motorola Solutions is seeking a Senior Network Engineer (10+ years' experience) to join the Operations Engineering team and provide leadership in end-to-end network design, integration, support and troubleshooting for mission-critical solutions across cloud and on-prem environments.
You will own and optimise the network stack for key platforms, configure and manage routers, switches and firewalls, improve IP network performance and security, and use automation and scripting to strengthen reliability and efficiency.
The role combines deep hands-on engineering, technical ownership, mentoring, clear documentation, proactive customer engagement and full ownership of complex issue resolution across Motorola's mission-critical systems in ANZ.
The Senior Network Engineer will work closely with the functional teams, and the primary relationship is to support and provide technical leadership to the Operations Engineering Manager.
Ensuring strong working relationships are formed with customers and sub-contractors, Motorola Operations Managers, Service Delivery Managers, National Support Services Managers, as well as providing maximum exposure to operational issues and priorities.

Job Description

Provides tailored technical customer operations support. Develops strategies for implementing operational efficiencies by reviewing work flows, procedures, and performance. Executes customer operations policies and procedures. Builds and maintains positive, effective, and mutually beneficial-working alliances with customers. Initiates problem solving action and follows through to resolution. Performs root-case analysis of problems to formulate and recommend improved alternative operations.  Leads process improvement initiatives.

The role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the existing IP network (firewalls, routers, switches) remotely and on-site across Motorola's product portfolio and customer contracts.
  • Make configuration changes on network devices as required (Juniper/Cisco/FortiGate/Palo Alto).
  • Lead and support project teams for new network deployments, upgrades and migrations.
  • Provide design, implementation and operational support for Microsoft Azure networking services, including Virtual Networks, subnets, NSGs, route tables, VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute, Azure Firewall and Private Link.
  • Support hybrid cloud network connectivity between on-premises environments and Azure, including secure routing, BGP, firewall integration, DNS and controlled ingress/egress patterns.
  • Perform upgrades on network devices (remote/onsite) and contribute to detailed network designs, standards and implementation plans.
  • Prepare, review and maintain network diagrams, as-built documentation, configuration records and operational procedures.
  • Interact with a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders, including customers, subcontractors and internal delivery teams.
  • Solve complex design and application problems that affect data flow between applications and user devices.
  • Act as a escalation point for the NSOC, Operations/Field Engineers and other technical teams when necessary.
  • Mentor and guide engineers on network troubleshooting, implementation quality, change control and operational best practice.
  • Perform other ad hoc IT-related tasks, including cabling and installation of devices/servers where required.
  • Follow work instructions, procedures and policies.
  • Develop, implement and maintain procedures to measure and track service performance/quality.
  • Log change requests and incidents as requested in Service Management tool (Remedy / Service Now).
  • Undertake ad hoc interstate travel as required to support other managed services networks.
  • Provide operational support for production network environments, including incident response, fault isolation, service restoration, and post-incident review activities.
  • Support day-to-day operations by monitoring network performance, responding to service requests, assisting change activities, and ensuring operational issues are documented, tracked, and resolved in line with agreed service levels.
  • Participate in regular on call roster for after-hours call out from the NSOC to resolve urgent system problems.

Undertake special projects and additional duties as required and assigned by the manager, aligning with the department's overall objectives and functions.


Basic Requirements

Essential:

  • Minimum of (10 years +) of experience in network engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related engineering field.

Highly Desirable:

  • ITIL Foundation v4 certification
  • Juniper JNCIP
  • Cisco CCNP
  • Working knowledge of Palo Alto and Juniper SRX Firewalls.

Desirable:

  • Additional qualifications (or significant industry experience) regarding:
  • Any Security certifications
  • Network design, implementation, troubleshooting experience including LANs/WANs,
  • VPNs, Juniper SRXs, Palo Alto Firewalls and Catalyst 9K series
  • Any VMWare/LINUX certifications

Network Security skills including IDS, IPS and SIEMs
