Institutional Banking & Markets (IB&M) Risk Management is a divisional Risk team providing IB&M with specialist Risk services and advice. It forms part of the Bank’s broader Risk model, which includes a corporate Risk policy and strategy group and a number of divisional Risk Management groups. 

The IB&M Credit Risk team is structured along the following industry lines: Industrials, Transport & Consumers; Telecommunications, Media, Entertainment, Technology & Retail; Real Estate & Infrastructure; Health, Education & Government; and Natural Resources, Energy & Carbon. It also includes a High Volume Corporate Team which services clients with exposures <$30M.

This role is responsible for the risk management of a portfolio of clients within the IB&M Natural Resources, Energy and Carbon risk team based in Sydney, Melbourne or Perth.

Do work that matters

As a Senior Manager, you will report to the Executive Manager of IB&M Natural Resources, Energy and Carbon risk team and will be responsible for the risk management of a portfolio of clients ensuring authorised frameworks and systems are effectively used in the management of risk and credit decisions so as to achieve an optimum outcome for the Group.

On any given week, you will:

  • Work proactively towards customer focus and productivity ensuring as far as possible that client timelines are met, combined with an ongoing assessment of process to ensure the credit risk process is as productive as possible.
  • Be responsible for a portfolio of IB&M Natural Resources, Energy and Carbon clients including origination, periodic credit reviews, exposure monitoring and breach reporting.
  • Work as part of deal teams to analyse clients, prepare credit submissions and provide risk recommendations. This will include providing guidance on deal structuring, approval processes and policies.
  • Exercise sizable Personal Credit Approval Authority.
  • Present transactions as the accountable Risk Executive at various forums.
  • Understand the impact of industry issues and change in internal/external credit environments on the credit quality of clients in the IB&M portfolio.
  • Make suggestions for productivity or process improvements to promote efficiencies across the team.

We are interested in hearing from people who have:

  • Risk Mindset.  All CommBank employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss and act on current and future risks.
  • Hold a tertiary qualification (or equivalent) in a finance related discipline.
  • Significant experience in credit risk management in corporate or institutional banking
  • Knowledge and experience in the Natural Resources, Energy, Carbon or Renewables industries will be highly regarded
  • Aptitude in financial modelling and strong analytical skills
  • Experience in project finance will be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated capacity to work in a busy, commercial, competitive environment and the ability to meet objectives and deliver high quality customer service
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
