Job Summary

The Senior Domain Specialist contributes to ensuring that Telstra systems deliver a superior experience for our consumer and business customers. The role works collaboratively to ensure the connection between platforms, applications, services and products provides a seamless experience that drives Telstra’s competitive advantage.Job Description

As part of the 5GDMC missions, you’ll collaborate on the design and evolution of cutting-edge networks and systems, while developing features that enhance customer satisfaction and reinforce Telstra’s position as a global technology leader. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you’ll drive initiatives that improve network performance, resilience, and integration—delivering tangible value to customers.

Success in this role requires deep expertise in wireless core networks and strong software engineering capabilities. You’ll be expected to demonstrate proficiency in 5G and LTE packet core functions (e.g., MME, PGW, SGW, AMF, SMF, UPF), along with automation tools such as Ansible, Python, GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, Landslide, and Splunk.

Your ability to communicate effectively will be key as you contribute to design discussions, collaborate with product and development teams, and experiment with innovative solutions to address customer pain points.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Domain Specialist, you will play a critical role in enhancing service reliability, proactively preventing incidents, and ensuring rapid restoration when issues arise. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ownership & Delivery: Take full ownership of assigned tasks, applying your domain expertise to deliver high-quality outcomes efficiently and within agreed timelines.

  • Collaborative Innovation: Work closely with team members to design and implement innovative network solutions, contributing to product development or specific components.

  • Performance Optimization: Proactively analyze and enhance system performance and resilience to ensure robust network operations.

  • Feature Development: Drive the development and deployment of new network features and functionalities, reinforcing Telstra’s leadership in the ICT industry.

  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to streamline processes, boost efficiency, and elevate the customer experience.

  • Problem Solving: Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to evaluate and resolve key challenges faced by mission teams.

  • Team Development: Contribute to team learning and development, supporting colleagues in achieving optimal performance.

  • Agile Practices: Embrace and apply Agile methodologies and mindsets in line with Telstra’s Agile operating model.

  • Automation & Efficiency: Leverage software skills to automate network changes and testing, enhancing the productivity of mission teams.

  • On-Call Support: Participate in a 24x7 recall roster to ensure continuous support and service availability.

  • DevOps Fundamentals: Apply foundational DevOps principles to support continuous integration and delivery.

 

Key Skills

  • Deep domain expertise in 5G and LTE mobile packet core

  • Proficiency in Cloud technologies and Kubernetes

  • Strong understanding of IP networking and routing

  • Experience with Change Management processes

  • Advanced critical thinking and troubleshooting capabilities

  • Competence in automated testing frameworks

  • Solid software development skills

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools

  • Application of Agile methodologies
