About the Portfolio

The Operations Portfolio enables an integrated, enterprise-wide delivery for best practice student and staff experiences. The Operations Portfolio incorporates the following business units: Enterprise Projects and Business Performance (EPBP), Communications, People, Information and Technology Services (ITS), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Procurement and Vietnam Operations.

The Operations Portfolio houses significant drivers and delivery components across the staff and student journeys and enables the overall experience for both groups. The Portfolio is integral in bringing the RMIT strategy to life globally. Each of these functions supports the global operations of the University both directly as well as through its controlled entities.

The Information Technology Services (ITS) function provides RMIT University with current and emerging Technology systems and services. The Role

The Senior Consultant, Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for supporting the identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting of technology and cybersecurity risks across Information Technology Services (ITS) and at Enterprise level. The role provides expert advice and hands-on delivery to ensure governance, risk management and compliance practices are effectively embedded and continuously improved in alignment with RMIT’s risk management framework and regulatory obligations.

The Senior Consultant works closely with ITS leadership, risk and control owners, and internal and external assurance functions to deliver risk-informed insights, coordinate audit and compliance activities, and strengthen overall GRC maturity. The role contributes to informed decision-making through high-quality reporting, risk analysis and assurance activities, while influencing stakeholders and supporting uplift in risk culture across key risk domains.

About You:

To be successful in this position, you’ll have

  • Demonstrated experience in IT governance, risk and control frameworks (e.g. COBIT, NIST), with the ability to apply these effectively to assess, manage and report technology and cybersecurity risks in a complex environment.

  • Proven experience in conducting third-party risk assessments, including stakeholder collaboration, identification of risks and issues, and development of practical, risk-based recommendations.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to make sound, well-reasoned decisions in situations with incomplete or ambiguous information.

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively coordinate and support risk and compliance activities within a large and complex organisation, driving continuous improvement in processes, controls and risk maturity.

  • Well-developed organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and influence stakeholders to achieve sustainable outcomes.

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build trusted relationships, clearly articulate risk insights, and effectively engage with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, contributing to shared goals while fostering a positive, inclusive and accountable team environment.

  • Proven ability to deliver advanced technical consulting to researchers across multiple domains

  • Ability to translate complex research requirements into effective technical computing solutions
