At Aurecon, you have the opportunity to make those choices matter. Discover how we bring ideas to life →

How will your ideas contribute to shaping what’s next?

As our new Senior Acoustic Engineer, you’ll be a key member of Aurecon’s specialist Acoustics team, helping to shape the soundscapes of Australia’s most complex and high-profile projects. You’ll join a dynamic and flexible team of more than 10 acoustic specialists across Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney, working collaboratively across both architectural and environmental acoustics across the Asia-pacific region.

This role is ideal for someone with 5–6 years of experience who thrives in a technically challenging environment, enjoys mentoring junior engineers, and is passionate about creating spaces that sound as good as they look.

Here are the key things you will do to ‘bring ideas to life’:

  • Lead and contribute to acoustic design for buildings, including sound privacy, reverberation, and noise control.
  • Support environmental noise assessments and environmental compliance for infrastructure and energy projects.
  • Work independently to deliver technical solutions and ask the right questions to guide design outcomes.
  • Mentor and train graduates and junior engineers, sharing knowledge and building capability within the team.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver integrated acoustic solutions.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and modelling outputs using industry-standard tools.
  • Contribute to major projects including data centres, battery energy storage, and transport infrastructure.

How will your future be shaped by us?

Joining Aurecon means you’ll be at the award-winning edge of innovation and sustainability. We’ve been ranked in the Top 5 sustainability leaders and Top 3 most innovative companies in professional services by the AFR. Our work has earned accolades like the One Consult Innovative Design Award and Consult Australia’s Large Firm of the Year. We don’t just claim to be inclusive and innovative - we’ve been independently recognised for our innovation culture, gender equality, and LGBTI+ inclusion. Our Reconciliation Action Plan, now in its fourth edition since 2014, reflects our long-term commitment to meaningful change.

As a multidisciplinary engineering and advisory consultancy, Aurecon offers a wide range of career pathways. Whether you're looking to deepen your technical expertise or explore new areas of the business, you’ll have the opportunity to grow, evolve, and move across teams and disciplines throughout your career. On a personal level, you’ll benefit from:

  • Flexible work hours, remote work, working holidays, part-time and job share options
  • A learning program 100% personalised to you, including the Aurecon Design Academy - earning you a Graduate Certificate in Design Management from RMIT University
  • Ongoing support through mentoring, learning pathways, and our Careers Hub
  • Competitive paid parental leave and cultural public holiday swaps
  • Wellbeing support programs and a competitive fitness package

What we’re looking for:

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • 5–6 years’ experience in architectural and/or environmental acoustics.
  • Strong technical capability in acoustic modelling, analysis, and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and mentor junior team members.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Passion for innovation and sustainability in acoustic design.
  • Familiarity with state EPA guidelines and Australian Standards.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
